"I thought so," said Veidt, in the same tone he'd use while handling a business interaction.

Adrien shrugged out of his unbuttoned shirt, let it fall onto the floor, and kicked off his shoes, then tugged his socks off.
Although he leaned back to undo the fastenings on his trousers, he gave Veidt a teasing smile and lifted an eyebrow. "Do I have to ask about this too. or...?"

"Do make sure the windows are shut."

Adrien blinked, rather slowly. "The windows - ?"

"To ensure no one can see inside."

Adrien groaned. "You ask this now - "
He got up to check the windows. He had never asked before, but they were probably tinted so that Adrian could see out and no one could see in. It had never occurred to him before. He was faintly embarrassed at his own inefficiency as a dirty little secret.
When he came back, he embraced Veidt from behind, a hand moving to teasingly stroke the inside of his bare leg, and kissed his throat, then tilted his head to look at him. "Mm. Will you unbutton my pants for me?" - because he rather thought he'd earned the right to ask.

He didn't answer, but merely set about carrying out the boy's request.

Adrien slipped his arms around Veidt's waist, a fingertip tracing over his spine in the small of his back, and kissed him almost coyly, not thinking that this would distract or hinder Veidt in any way. He was trying to make up for the time they'd lost post-Karnak discussion.

"You really are far too good for this, Baillon."

"Pardon?" asked Adrien in an again-drowsy, hushed voice against Veidt's lips. "I thought I was good at this..."

"No- no, trust me, you are quite above satisfactory in this regard-"

Adrien's lips curved into a smile, still brushing Veidt's. "Oh? Oh good," he said, leaning forward to kiss him just below his ear, already half-forgetting that if that had not been what Veidt meant, then he had missed what Veidt's point had been.

"I mean to say that it is a terrible shame that you-"
There was a pause.
"That you must live your life this way."

Adrien gently pulled back, although not by much. Only enough to look him in the eye, his eyelids half-closed, his brows knotted. "I could live it other ways," he said.
Rather than to admit shame or optimism in his tone of voice, though, there was a distinct note of warning to it. I could live it other ways. Be glad I don't.

There was a moment of warmth as they held each other. For that moment, they could have been any two lovers in the world-
And yet as soon as the moment had past, reality held sway again. They were both too busy keeping secrets from one another, ruminating over their own actions, and thinking of other things.
They were not even really lovers.
