Rishka's reaction to the news that Herbert and Aziraphale would be leaving Paris soon had not done much to inspire confidence in Herbert that his father would react any differently.
(Well, Vati would be perhaps less high-pitched and prone to punching pillows than Marishka, but the same sentiments could stand.)
He had the same feeling as he entered the castle that he had returning there after the last ball- that something had shifted and changed, that whatever it was that had made the place home had left when Herbert himself did. Now, though, it felt more like looking at an old photograph, or knowing the contours of a piece of jewelry lost for years as soon as one finds it again. The halls seemed bigger than he remembered, everything more imposing.
He smiled a little. He had really accustomed himself to the little space he shared with Aziraphale, then.
Herbert had dressed well for the occasion. More like his old self, at any rate. The bookshop didn't really suit dressing... Herbertishly, and he'd gotten quite comfortable not having to after all. Even now, a small change was noticeable- the clothes he wore now leaned closer to being excessively tasteful than to just being excessive, and he hadn't found it necessary to bind his hair back for the day.
He waited, slightly awkwardly, in the great hall, hoping his father or Igor or someone would show up and keep him from having to walk through the past all over again.

Yager was quite enjoying his stay at the castle.
Things were done properly here... at present it was dinnertime and thus he was running. Mostly because he was dinner.
The vampire hunter dodged, ran, scampered, crawled and jumped through the castle, occasionally hiding somewhere to catch his breath. Man, this was fun!
It was in fact so much fun that Yager completely overlooked the giant staircase and came crashing down with sounds that really couldn't be healthy, finally landing at Herbert's feet with a crunch that might well indicate a spinal injury.
"Ouch..." he muttered before slowly getting up. As he did so he noticed a pair of feet in front of him... and tight pants. Ah, a vampire... but it wasn't the count.
Yager glanced up from his current kneeling position on the floor and grinned. "Hey..."

Herbert took a cringing step backward. This wasn't what he'd had in mind.
"And you are...?"

"I'm Yager."
The vampire hunter straightened up and stretched so everything on the inside of him could properly realign itself.
"So, what's your name?" He gave the vampire a happy smile. Always nice to meet new people.

"It's Herbert," he said, with the usual tone of dislike for the name in his voice.
He extended a hand, then slowly withdrew it.

"Well, it's certainly great to meet you, Herbert," Yager replied with another one of his big smiles before falling silent for a few moments and glancing behind him. He then closed his eyes for a second or two.
Nope, no approaching count yet... either that or the man was really good.
"So, what are you doing here?"

But of course, Krolock had to make one of his stealth entrances. For dramatics. The effect was somewhat ruined when his step faltered. Yager. Talking to...Herbert.
The falter quickly changed to a smart walk, Krolock smiling.
"Ah, mein sohn! Guten abend."

Yager, his senses as keen to pick up the faltering step of his 'hunter' as any prey's, looked around at the count and frowned for a few seconds before realization dawned.
Of course! That Herbert!
The vampire hunter quickly made a bow to the count's son.
"You have to fogive me, there was a little blood in my adrenaline." Yager chuckled. "Your father is a good hunter."

"Vati," Herbert began, striding over to his father.

He met Herbert about halfway into the room, opening his arms and offering a hug.

Herbert hugged him, but there was a guarded reluctance in his movements.

Something was off. He was getting a troubling feeling from Herbert.
He frowned thoughtfully.
"Herbert?"

Yager had watched the scene with the equivalent of 'Awwww...' written on his face. However, sensing the count's concern, he frowned as well.

"I came to tell you something," Herbert said slowly.

"What is it?"
There was definite worry in his voice now.
