*Susan hummed happily to herself as she practiced with her arrows, letting them fly from some distance at a target she'd pinned on a tree.*

Keeping well out of the way of the arrows, Fenris sat down off to the side, watching with interest as Susan practiced with her weapon. He knew of archery, but hadn't seen it in action before.

Running out of arrows, Susan laid down her bow and went to pull them out of the target, hoping she hadn't hurt the tree too much, frowning when she spied some marks from the arrows and pins on its bark. She wondered if there were tree-people, in this world...
"Sorry," she murmured to the tree, just in case, rubbing the marks lightly.

He tilted his head to one side, wondering what she meant by that. Too curious to just sit there, he decided to try communicating.
"Arf!" He said, keeping the tone friendly.

Susan turned at the sound, seeing the dog.
"Well, hello, there!" she said with a smile, holding out her hand so the dog might sniff it, if he chose.

Well, this was encouraging.
Walking up, he went up to the offered hand and gave it a sniff.
Human, a normal one for once, though there was something in the air about her that he'd come to associate with magical things.
He wagged his tail.

He seemed friendly enough, wagging his tail, and so Susan knelt to scratch his ears gently.
"Good boy...you're a good boy--aren't you a handsome dog? Who's a good doggy-woggy?"
She began to descend into something akin to baby-talk, grinning to herself happily as she stroked his head.

He wiggled in appreciation, glad for some attention.
I'm a good dog!
He hadn't meant to think so loudly, though he was sure no one but Micaela could hear his thoughts in the first place.

"Yes you a--oh!" Susan drew back slightly in shock, realizing the dog had spoken. Or...at least she had heard a voice. "I--I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were an Animal. That you could talk, that is...please, forgive me if I offended your dignity..." she said, rather formally. She knew one had to be careful with the feelings of Animals--so many people treated them like...well, like animals.

Fenris stared at her in surprise for a moment before coming back to his senses.
You can hear me?! He asked, trying to contain his excitement.

"Well, yes--and there's no need to shout..." said Susan with a gentle smile. "I'm used to Animals speaking. You...appear to do it a little differently, though."

He wuffed in relief.
Sorry about that shouting. It's just that almost nobody can hear me, and I was starting to give up on it.

"Really?" Susan looked puzzled for a moment. "What a strange world this is..."
Compared to Narnia...well, Narnia was strange, too. And Home, well...it's just boring, by comparison.

He nodded.
There's so much I've always wanted to do, but I can't because nobody hears me.
He gave Susan the doggy equivalent of a smile.
But, I'm glad I've found people who hear. You're the second I know.

"Oh, I'm glad you've got someone else, too. What kinds of things would you like to do?"
