*Unable to utter a coherent response, all she could do was squeeze his hand and nod.*

*It was taking every ounce of self-control to maintain the slow pace. He turned her around so that they were face to face again and slipped the other shoulder of her nightgown off, careful to touch only the fabric. He then leaned closer to her collar bone, lightly grazing the skin with his lips before kissing her.*

*Though her fingers tangled in his hair as she let out a soft cry, she maintained just enough presence of mind to ease his head upward. Tilting it with her right hand, she pressed herself fully against him and kissed him properly, fingers still entwined in his hair.*

*That throaty cry she let out evaporated all control he had of his carnal desires. He needed her again. Now.*
*But despite the desperation he felt inside, his movements were quite tender. One hand smoothed back her hair and took her by the nape of he neck, pressing her closer to deepen the kiss. His other hand stroked the bare skin of her back and moved further downward, taking the nightgown with it. Inch by inch, more of her soft skin was revealed.*

*They'd ended up near the side of the bed, the edge of which nudged the back of her legs. She sat down, leaned over, and blew out the candle sitting on the bedside table. It sputtered and extinguished, and even in the dark she managed to find his collar to pull him down onto the bed with her.*
*She clung to him gently, insistent but not forceful. She didn't know if she'd come to regret this... but for right now, she didn't care. All that mattered was that they were here, tonight, together.*

**FADE IN**
*He kept her close the entire night, even as he slept. It was still dark but dawn was near.*

*Adrienne put up no protest--in fact, she seemed to gravitate towards him as well, even in slumber. Her hair was mussed, her cheeks flushed, her skin warm and her lips relaxed and ever so slightly parted as she slept, her limbs still intertwined with his.*

*His mind drifted in and out of consciousness, the hazy half-sleep better than the influence of any substance. When he inhaled deeply, her scent fully woke him. He silently watched her.*
*There had to be a downside to something this good-- there always was... but at that moment, he couldn't think of any.*

*It seemed she'd chosen that moment to move closer, into the circle of his arms. She buried her face somewhere in the vicinity of his shoulder, and an unconscious smile spread across it.*

*Just as he leaned over and was about to kiss her, there was a knock on the door. He froze, hoping that he had heard wrong. But there was another knock.*
*Chuck shook Adrienne to wake her.*
"There someone at the door," *he whispered, trying not to sound frantic.*

*She blinked awake, rubbing her eyes until she heard the third knock. That made her freeze.*
"One minute Rose!" *She called, voice still sleepy enough that it hid the minor panic. She turned to Chuck.*
"You have to take the main hallway back to your room; she's at the servants' door and nobody should be up yet." *She whispered.*

"I hate this part," *he muttered to himself before rushing to get dressed.*
*With everything ready save for a few undone buttons on his shirt, he headed to the door. He paused before opening it.*
"If you want to get caught..." *he said with a mischievous smirk.*

*After throwing a nightgown on, she rolled her eyes, bit back a smile, and pushed him the rest of the way out the door.* "See you at breakfast."
*Closing the door, she turned and let Rose in to light the fire.*

*The grin stayed on his face as the door shut in his face. He turned and walked to his room, buttoning his shirt on the way.*
