Only moments after Nicolas left, another entered, but it was only Vincent. There was something calming in the other's quiet nature, so unlike Nicolas's, and so Armand never minded Vincent's company.
It was still a small surprise to see Vincent approach him, though. He was still a recent enough addition to the tower that Armand sometimes forgot he was there. Now, though, after what Nicolas had told him, that the lord he was staying with was looking for a vampire named Vincent...Armand turned his head, examining Vincent with new eyes.
"Nothing's wrong. Why do you ask? Did you see Nicolas leave?"

Stunned with Armand's sudden question, Vincent took a barley noticeable step back. He shrugged as some kind of answer to his question. "I just thought you looked a little lonely. I figured I might be of some assistance, if you needed someone to talk to."
Although he never had met or even heard of Nicolas before, he understood it must have been the same one he just saw leaving here.
"I saw him, yes. Not properly though. I was too far away and he was gone too quickly before I was able to get a good look at him. "
Vincent looked slightly confused as he continued: "Why do you wonder about that? Wasn't I supposed to see him?"

Armand shrugged, gaze wandering away, but he didn't seem displeased. "That's kind of you." His lips stretched into a delighted smile at Vincent's last words as he turned to look at the other vampire, hair sliding off of his shoulder with the movement to dangle, two lone auburn strands, next to his throat.
The younger vampire's question was innocent and perceptive at the same time, a combination Vincent often displayed. Armand had yet to understand whether this was intentional, only masked as polite ignorence, or if Vincent really had an unrealized talent for asking just the right questions. If it were geniunely unassuming, it was absolutely charming; if it was not, it was very clever of him to pretend.
"No, I didn't know when you would be coming back. You'll meet him soon. He's going to stay here for a while."

Not knowing what to feel about another visitor, Vincent simply nodded. "How nice of you to let him stay here as well." he said in a low voice.
In the back of his mind, Vincent found himself feeling slightly annoyed. Why did he need another one to stay with him? Vincent was more than capable of being good company. But the thought struck him that he had no clue of Armand and Nicolas's relationship. Maybe they had known eachother for a long time, and then, wouldn't it be natural to let him stay once in a while? Just as Aurel had wished for Vincent to stay with him once. It was a friendship thing.
Friendship... Vincent frowned. What Aurel and himself had now was nowhere close to that word. Had it ever been? Sure, Vincent used to be Aurel's closest man, sure Aurel had picked Vincent to marry his beloved daughter... But as soon as something bad happened, he had thrown Vincent out of his life, as if he were worth nothing more than a human.
Meeting Armand's eyes, Vincent smiled slightly. "If I will be in your way, I can leave to look for somewhere else to stay" he added. But as soon as he'd said it, he realised he'd rather not leave here. For some reason he would like to try to get to know Armand better. If Armand would let him, that is.

Vincent's voice was low, enough so that any tone was indiscernible. Armand noticed this but didn't feel any particular reason to explain himself or his decisions to the other, as Vincent's first comment might have prompted. If Vincent really were unhappy with it, he could leave.
Although, Armand didn't really want that to happen. He liked Vincent. The younger vampire had yet to do a single thing Armand found distasteful or rude or, almost as worst, boring. He was especially restful company after Nicolas's. Armand shook his head, one hand coming up in a gesture as though to halt the continuation of the very thought.
“No, your company is never anything but welcome,” he said, the hand lowering. “Don’t let Nicolas drive you away.” It had occurred to him a few minutes before that Nicolas might try, out of jealousy or spite or whatever reason Nicolas had for doing the things that he did. It would be one thing if they just happened to inhabit the same place, but Armand had asked Vincent to stay with him, and therefore it would be unacceptable to let Nicolas do so. And at the same time, it would be extremely unacceptable if Armand should let Nicolas get so upset by Vincent’s presence that he went on another murder spree- Armand would have to pay particular attention to the violinist to ensure that he didn’t do that, either.

Vincent's face lightened up as he smiled at Armand. To know than he was welcomed at Armand's place was just the right thing he needed to hear at the moment. "Thank you!" he said, his grateful voice a little higher than usual, making him sound a little childish.
Nicolas was still a little mystery to him, but he figured it couldn't be too bad. He usually got along well with most of the people he met. If he could handle Aurel, there wouldn't be much more he couldn't take care of, right?
Noticing his shirt was a little muddy and had several stains of blood on it - he hadn't bothered to hunt 'discretely' today, as Aurel usually demanded of him - Vincent a little absent minded tugged it off, his eyes searching for something else to put on. "I think I need to wash this..." he mumbled. "Where might I...?" He looked at Armand, leaving his question unfinished. Maybe Armand didn't wash his clothes? But he always looked so stunningly beautiful, so Vincent hardly believed Armand would put on something too shabby.

Armand smiled back, but then his expression went blank as his eyes focused on the dirty shirt. He looked politely quizzical and perhaps a little confused. "Ah...I don't...if you'll wait for me just a moment." He turned and left the room, moving with the vampiric speed that would have left him barely a smear of impression on a human's cornea. A minute or two later he reappeared, a bundle of cloth in his arms consisting of two or three shirts- loose and tunic-like, and one even had three lines of even dust where it had been folded and left for who knows how long. He offered the pick of these silently to Vincent. Armand did not wash his clothes, but instead discarded them once they were dirty, and stole or bought more when the opportunity arose. He had stolen clothing from his victims multiple times and so had multiple sizes and colors of cloth upstairs in his coffin room, thrown into trunks haphazardly or folded when he minded them. Something would fit Vincent.

Vincent looked a little bothered by having Armand offering him clothes. Armand had already done so much for him, by giving him a place to stay. But he didn't argue, and qietly picked out a dark blue shirt, matching his deep blue eyes very well. Vincent put it on and noticed that it fit perfectly. He smiled again, something that was so easy to around Armand he had noticed, and looked at Armand. "Thank you, it fits very well." he said.
He brushed off some dust, silent again. He glanced at Armand. "How come you live alone?" he then asked.

Armand's eyebrows raised, but he was not really so surprised by the question as he appeared. "Who am I supposed to be living with?" he asked.

"Don't you have someone you... love?" Vincent asked hesitantly. Once more, he had a hard time to adjust to vampires living ion different ways than Aurel. He always had people around him (even though most of them worked for him).
Vincent shuddered his shoulders slightly. "Or someone that you just want to be around... I don't know. I guess I'm not used to this. I never lived on my own since I became a vampire."

Ah, what an awkward and elusive question. If Armand ever discovered that Vincent's soft-spoken, almost innocent air was a calculated one, he'd be angry at such a question. As it were, Vincent just seemed all the more tenderly naive.
"No." Armand regarded him with a little curiousity. Had he ever asked....? "You lived with your Maker, then."

Vincent nodded once, his lips smiling slightly at a vague memory. "Yes", he said softly, "he took care of me."
Vincent's smile then twisted into a grimace. Unaware of it, his eyes narrowed as he growled silently. He was torn, and hadn't a clue of what to feel. Somehow he stilled missed Aurel, but yet he yearned to rip his throat off sometimes. Vincent stared at Armand, still not realising how bizarre he must look. Why couldn't Aurel be more like Armand? Armand had never demanded anything of him, and certainly hadn't slapped him around like Aurel used to.
"Did you ever take care of a vampire you were the maker of?" Vincent then asked. Maybe it wasn't usual to take care of a newborn vampire the way Aurel had. But then again, Aurel was rather unusual in many other ways.

There was very obviously a history there, and very obviously pain, anger, hurt- but Armand had ceased to be surprised at the idea of disliking one's maker, or being resentful of them. It never seemed to work any other way.
"I did," Armand said, after a moment of hesitant silence, but why deny that he had a fledgling? His first impulse had been to say he'd never made one, like Daniel had never happened. But that was only further proof of what Armand already knew, wasn't it, and although he did not regret Daniel- a little, secretly, but he'd never tell anyone that- he would never, ever turn another one. Never again. "Perhaps not to his satisfaction or approval, however." Another moment of silence, as Armand regarded Vincent levelly, his eyes dark and compelling. "What was your maker's name?"
He wondered, absurdly, randomly, and for the first time, what Nicolas would think of Daniel.
