I thought we might need a place to discuss the goings on at the Opera, both behind the scenes and how we're running actual operas. As in--do we need more rehearsal? Should we start playing Faust? Do we need anything in particular to happen during the run?
Also, if anyone wants to make sure their opera-centric characters interact, or just wants to know who's there, we can use this space.
For me, I think I want to make sure that the tension is maintained between Carlos and the rest of the cast. I'd also like Faust to be awesome--maybe Brandi's critic could be a part of that? (Watching All About Eve last night, Joy suggested we needed Addison DeWitt.)
At the Opera, I have: Erik (obviously; he's behind Julian's appearance in Faust and has an interest in that going well) Carlos (lead tenor, less volatile than he used to be but I do not mind bringing that out more. He's supposed to be Carlotta-ish. I could totally see him in an All About Eve situation, too, where someone flatters him enough to get in under his guard.) Alex (alto/mezzo, periodically in trousers) Rogue (currently seeking shelter with Jack Skellington) Ed Wood (stalled, but he's been a director in the past) The Persian (my version, more serious) Valmont (attends a lot)
I could see Beef getting involved--maybe. Unless we make a new Paradise. And I have a steampunk!Christine who hasn't gotten going yet.
So what do you guys want to make sure happens at the Opera?

Isn't there a place that lists who's in Faust? I'm off looking for it right now.

Thanks so much! It's enormously useful.
I also haz opera characters: Christine Farinelli Ghislain Lissie Odette
Of me singers: Since Farinelli just got here, I imagine he's just going to show up at rehearsals for research and Christine has a part in the chorus. She is very upset with herself for not having something bigger, but she loves Faust and lurks around even when she is not needed, giving encouragement. Of my dancers: Lissie comes on, gives it her all, goes off. Odette lingers around and chews her lip and tries to think up reasons to talk to everything. Of my violinist: Ghislain is a force to be reckoned with. Fear his cat-calling.
I also have some attendees: Archie (maybe) Aubrey (probably) Jean des Esseintes Comtesse du Barry Rosalind (will be hanging around Alex and later Mercutio) Wednesday (will be doing school research)

I have:
Meg (dancer, though she's on the verge of getting whisked off and duchessed) Pavi (the inexplicable darling of the opera world back in his canon) Jeanne Gramont (chorus girl and Baby's First Sue)

Is it possible to learn what exactly a Pavi is?

Pavi is, um, this guy: Unabashed narcissist who spends most of his time staring at his own reflection, son of the owner of the biggest biotech/opera company in the world, a serial rapist but so deluded that he fails to comprehend the very idea that a woman (or occasionally a man) may not want him (and a surprising number of them actually do), and wears women's flesh stapled over his own scarred-up face. (Though he thinks the scars are pretty sexy too.) You'd think he'd have plot all over the place around here, what with all that perversion, but sadly, I've had trouble finding him any. I also have Mag (slave to the company Pavi's dad owns/powerhouse of a soprano) now. ^_^

I have...
Christine Daae` (soprano who's turned from Erik to Ed Wood) Irene (contralto whose train wreck of a life has become a running joke) Toby Ragg (sweet, crazy, traumatized boy who plays violin- somewhat retired, but I can always bring him back.)

Yeah, you'd think they would have thought about the inevitable comparisons while writing this- I mean, um, the opera setting and all that. It's even more jarring when you realize that the face-stealing bit wasn't actually in the play the film is based on- in the first version of the play, Pavi is a normal-looking, dim-witted playboy in white facepaint and lipstick. In the second one, it's his own face, but tugged back from the scalp to try to hide any burgeoning wrinkles. And then came the movie. But yeah, Mag's definitely an option, and she'd be happy to take any role- performing is all that gives her life any meaning anymore. And those suits with guns who show up and demand that she take a leading role aren't there at her behest. Promise. The poor woman's basically used by the company as a walking billboard.

I know. If the Grand Guignol thing happens, I'm still up for it.
And Mag and Irene would get along really well.

Should I start it? SInce Faust is cast, it could be the Opera's competition, and the GeneCo types could star...

Mag's a genuine opera singer, but will probably consider it a relief to not have to be in Faust. It'd remind her too much of the bargain she made.
...but she's probably forced under pain of elimination to perform in something.

So, here's the question: Do you all think we should move to performance? Or is there more you want to get done in rehearsals/before then?
As to performance, I think it should heighten various rivalries, perhaps propelled by the reviews of Brandi's critic, who should be involved.
