Valentine discovered a new sort of amazment at Mortimer's ability to stay afloat, believing himself to have at least a good 60 pounds of weight (plus dinner) over the sharkman. Not only that, but he was very graceful with his movements...
...and he realized that he had either gotten used to the water very quickly, or his body was otherwise warmed up some how.
"Moortimer," he breathed, almost into his friend's ear, trying to maintain his grip. "Ah need ta stop fer a minute..."

Well, in this shape, he didn't quite have ears, per say but he nodded and turned in the water, slowing and letting his body sing so that Valentine could still hold into him around what passed for his neck, but otherwise float free and rest.
"Okay? Too cold?"

"Er... yeah... soort of..." he muttered, keeping his head above the water. Yes, the water was much, much too cold right now, but leaving was not exactly an option either. It would be... embarrassing to have to explain to Mortimer what was wrong, so Valentine just floated there... like a dead log. In fact, if it weren't for his shallow breathing, he might have seemed to be dead in the water.

"Monsieur? Is okay? Can take back inside, fire is good, warm, can rest with in Julian's room...warm blankets...okay? Valentine?"
He gave a little whimper and shifted around in the gentle and still water.

Stirring himself to move again, Valentine grunted and tightened his grip on Mortimer, feeling a little more... relaxed now.
"That soonds loike a good idear, Moortimer. Ah think w'both need t'warm oop and rest..." he said quietly, nodding in the water. At this point, he felt too exhausted to worry about this Julian person returning right now. And maybe he could sneak in another cup of tea to help calm him down. Heaven knew he needed to relax.

The little deathgod let out a few soft clicks and turned in the water, raising himself up under the maskfaced man to support him and lazily making his way back, not really wanting to leave the water so soon, but he understood that people could not take the cold as he did, and generally didn't seem to enjoy swimming as much.
The same motions that brought them out took them back, the dull glow of Mortimer's eyes keeping straight ahead, clearly seeing the way which would look to Valentine as only and endless, watery darkness.

He would be fascinated again if that uncomfortable feeling in the pit of his stomach had not decided to return, causing him to hang onto the sharkman a little tighter, for fear of dropping into the lake again.
"Did we rilly go oout that far?" he asked with a small shiver, his skin dotted with goosebumps all over. No, he could see that far, but it did feel like they had been swimming for a while. If he wasn't so chilled to the bone, it might have been a little bit nicer... maybe he would just have to adjust... what was he thinking?! There was no way he'd be allowed to stay down there.
"How mooch further, d'you think?" he asked quickly, trying to get his mind away from that train of thought.

"Not very far," he chuckled.
"Am swimming very slow f' not Valentine fall off."
The little creature then assumed that the man would prefer to get back faster, and his tail splashed behind them, propelling them forward more quickly, causing a very slight wake as his body made wider and more powerful archs.

Valentine would have smiled at the consideration, however, the movement with the extra speed made him nearly lose his grip and he slipped on Mortimer's spine a little. Having to grab the creature's thick neck again, he pulled himself up again, clinging tighter than when he'd nearly drowned himself.
"Yannoo, I'm nawt rilly in tha'much ove a hurry..." he said rapidly, still trembling badly. Though he did want to get out of the water and warmed up. Most importantly, he absolutely needed to get his clothing back on.

Though by the time the masked man had made his request, they were already at the shelf, and Mortimer turned to let Valentine off his back and then swam out again, disappearing under the water and resurfacing again a few moments later, turning graceful flips and dives and twists that no one could see in the dark, for his own amusement.
He was quickly back to shore, though, and swam up until he could stand, sliding out of the water with his heavy tail raised up behind him to keep it out of the mud.

Once he was to his feet again, Valentine made a stiff-legged retreat to the safety of the shore, pulling on his pants and shirt when he felt sufficiently... dry enough to do so. Puffing out his cheeks, he sat on the bank and waited for Mortimer, tying up his short boots as the little shark creature finally came back.
"See, if y'ad told me y'could do that, I dun think I woulda been sooprised t'see yeh coomin' at me..." he said pointedly, getting up from the ground to dust off his loose britches and hold a hand out to Mortimer. "Tis a neat trick."

Mortimer took the man's hand and pulled him along again back toward the door.
"'m sorry. Can change back, is easier f' lay in bed--no tail."
He let them in, closing the door behind them and then taking the man's hand again, leading him through the house to Julian's room and pushing the door open, deciding he could leave the tea dishes in the parlor until later, Erik and Julian wouldn't mind.
The room was masculine and warm, and smelled of Julian, which made Mortimer feel safe. He took a moment to shake off his sharkish form and padded his human self over to the bed again, flopping down onto it and rubbing his back on the spread--it always itched so badly when he changed.

Removing his boots again, Valentine left them near the edge of the bed in case of a hasty retreat, and sat at the edge, taking a deep breath. He'd had to share a bed with Bing when money was tight before, so sleeping next to a cute little tattooed man should be no problem.
Laying back, Valentine put his arms behind his hand and flopped against a pillow, then settling in. "S'quoite a noice place y'ave'ere, Moortimer. Quoite a bit better than the little rooms y'get when perfoormin' on the road," he said with a small smile, turning so he laid on his side, facing his host.
"Well, uh.... good afternoon..." It was not yet evening, after all.

Mortimer smiled brightly and shifted around on the bed, curling up on his side and nuzzling up to the man, tucking his head under the frim "goatee" on Valentine's chin.
"After rest, will show opera, and outside."

Valentine yawned, and in spite of himself, wrapped his arms around the smaller man, snuggling up a bit to get comfortable.
"Ah...Ah hopre yer Julian friend doon't moind me catchin' a rest in his bed..." he trailed, more tired than he realized. Snuggling a little closer, he made sure to not jab Mortimer with his goatee and then laid still. "Mebbe they'll need a joogler..." he said, quieter now, as he started to fade off into a nice little nap. Complete with snoring.
