*She kept a little bit of a distance, but less than she'd displayed in public up until now. One hand curled near her stomach, unable to believe there was something growing in there.*

*His parents came down presently, his mother looking positively radiant and grinning widely at the two of them*
"Oh, this is a wonderful day! Good news all around!" She proclaimed.
Marc chuckled.
"Glad to hear such a new day is already a success."
*There was a brief paus, and then--*
"--we're having a baby!"
*Though it was said both Marc and his mother. Marc blinked in surprise*
"Mother...? You...?"
*His parents grinned*
"Yes. Unexpected, to be sure, but there you have it."
*Madame Desmarais went over to Marianne and took her hand*
"And congratulations to you, too, my dear!"

*Marianne smiled shyly.* "Thank you. To you as well." *She said, her voice soft.*

"This so overwhelming," Marc was saying.
"Another brother or sister, AND a child of my own."
*Madame Desmarais looked like she wanted to hop up and down*
"They'll be the same age. They could be more like siblings than cousins, I think."

"Certainly strange to possibly be older than or the same age as your own uncle or aunt." *Marianne mused.*

"Strange to be so much older than my brother or sister." Marc said.
"But I agree, they would be more like closer relatives."

"I wonder whether they'll be the same gender or different."

"I would hope for the same," he said, the same time his mother voiced her vote for different.
His father chuckled.
"And now you see, Marianne, what I deal with on a regular basis."

*She smiled a little. She'd never seen a married couple who were so... happy.*

"In any case, we have planning ahead of us." Marc said.

*Marianne nodded, shy now that she'd spoken her piece.*

*The conversation continued for a long time, mostly Madame Desmarais' various ideas about a room for the babies, how to decorate, et cetera. Eventually, Marc and Marianne were able to escape and be on their own once again.
Marc still had that big grin on his face*
"This is one of the best days of my life."

*She smiled at him.*
"I'm glad the fact that my ovaries are doing their job pleases you." *She teased.*

**LATER**
*Marianne sat in the drawing room, enjoying the twilight and reading. Marc was busy doing something or other, so she was alone.*

*He was there, silently, only watching.
Not for long. His patience had been worn rather thin, all told*
"Hello, dear."
