"I can just get another one," he said idly as he wandered upstairs.
He emerged again nearly an hour later, damp-haired and smelling strongly of the sensible sort of soap Aziraphale insisted on buying for them, dressed in an entirely different set of clothes. He seemed entirely unaware of John's presence until he actually saw him again, at which point his mouth twisted in a way that indicated that he would probably be turning red in embarrassment if he could.
"Kept you waiting."

He stood up suddenly as the man emerged an hour later, he was far too nice a man to have just left. Rubbing his eyes "Uh, well yes" he smiled "but I'm afraid we must make this quite quick, I promised the girl watching my shelter I'd be back in an hour."

"How many hours til sunrise?" Herbert asked.

John checked his watch and was about to ask the man why he would ask such a thing, when it dawned on him and he smiled "About ten."

"You owe me," he muttered. Herbert started searching for any number of books that could help with the man's request, realized he was having trouble reading the spines on the shelves, grudgingly fetched the glasses Aziraphale had insisted on procuring for him and put them on, chose four or five thankfully ooze-free volumes, and scrawled a small note to leave for Aziraphale: He looked back up at the other man as he finished. "I'll, er, come with you," he volunteered uneasily.

"Wonderful" he smiled and went for the door "it isn't far."

He smiled thinly, quite certain that this was another one of those Things He'd Regret Doing.
