"Of course, Your... milady," Oscar said, all concern. "Please call when you require anything."
She bowed and took her leave, resolved to keep Marie out of danger at all costs, now they were away.

*With a final nod, she slipped into her room, locking it firmly behind her before divesting herself of her filthy clothes. She'd have to sleep in her shift, but it was (for the most part) left untouched by the sewers and the dirt of the road.
It took some time for her to drift off to sleep, unable to completely turn off her thoughts. What would tomorrow bring? Would she have to stay in hiding indefinitely? She got a chill from that--she'd been in hiding before her death, all those years ago.
Finally, after tossing and turning from troubling thoughts, she drifted off into slumber*

Despite her own aches and pains and exhaustion, Oscar stood for a moment, then walked back downstairs to the lady who had received them. The queen would need clothes and food, and Oscar hoped the proprietress could assist her.

**NEXT MORNING**
*When Marie woke up, it wasn't because the gentle rays of the morning sun had done so. It was a sudden, nasty nausea that hit her like a ton of bricks. Moving only fast enough to make it just in time, she ran into the bathroom and promptly emptied what little had been in her stomach to begin with*

At the sound of movement in the other room, Oscar woke from a light sleep, instantly alert. Her body ached, her wound throbbing, but her thoughts were for her mistress.
It did not sound like a struggle, however. Oscar adjusted her jacket (she had borrowed it from the proprietor, as well as procured clothes for Marie) and knocked after a polite interval.

*Marie had just finished pulling herself back together when the knock came. Hoping she didn't look too out of sorts, opened the door a bit, just enough to peer around the side. She was in only a shift, after all*
"Oh! Good morning, Oscar."

"Good morning, your majesty," Oscar said softly. Marie looked pale. "I wondered if I might procure anything for your comfort. I have clothes, here."
She offered them; they were not fine, but they would fit, at least. Oscar had seen to that.

*She smiled wanly. She hoped she didn't look too bad*
"Thank you, that will do wonderfully--it'll feel good to be wearing proper clothes again."
*She took the offered garments, instantly liking them because they were clean.*
"I think...I'll only have tea this morning. I'm feeling too restless for more than that."

Oscar nodded.
"Of course, your majesty," she said. "I will procure it. Do you still wish to go to your country house today?"
She would find some hard biscuits or cakes, too, to take along with them. In case Madame got hungry.

*She nodded*
"I don't think I'll feel completely safe until we've arrived there."
*She held up the dress*
"And thank you again."

"You're welcome, highness."
Oscar bowed again.
"I will return with tea."

*She felt a faint prickle of nausea, but it was far more manageable than it had been just before.*
"I will see you in a few moments, then," she replied.

Oscar, thinking only that her lady was ill from her mistreatment and the stress of the situation, thought nothing but of Marie's eventual comfort. And, when she had accomplished her errand, waited patiently for her in the hall with tea.

*It didn't take long for her to get dressed, and she felt much better to wearing at least normal clothes. She still resolved, though, to have her hair cut shorter. It's current length made it unmanageable.
As presentable as she could make herself, she opened the door to find Oscar*
"Oh, thank you." She smiled as she reached for the tea.
"You're a life-saver."

Oscar took her words seriously.
"It is only my duty, Madame," she said. "There is no one else present to see to your comfort."
