*Robbie bobbed his head and went to get the saddle, a blanket, and a bridle.*
"As you wish."

*As she waited she made sure her hat was properly pinned, so that it wouldn't go flying off her head. When she decided it was merely in the way and completely impractical for riding, she unpinned the thing and hung it on a peg, not truly caring what happened to it. Chances were it had been inordinately expensive, but in her opinion it was a nuisance. Her hair remained immaculately curled and pinned in a relatively simple bun.*

*Robbie finished saddleing the mare and led her over to where the young miss was waiting, standing by as ladies generally sought help in mounting their horses, but uncertain about boldly offering his services in that respect.*

*But Johanna was not so small and delicate as to be incapable of mounting her own horse. Her instructor had stressed her learning all aspects of horsemanship: grooming, saddling, mounting, as well as riding.*
*She pulled herself up after taking the reins from Robbie, situating herself on the sidesaddle and gently clicking to the horse and nudging her into a walk.*

*Robbie stood still until she had gone, furtively watching her as she rode away. Shaking his head, he returned to his work.*

*When she returned about an hour later the weather had turned chilly. Her cheeks were in high color and her hair was mussed by the wind, leaving some blonde curls to fly about in the still-brisk breeze. She dismounted, leading the horse into the stables and patting her nose the whole way.*

*Robbie was at work polishing a saddle in the tack room, and stood upon hearing the clatter of hooves on the flagstones out in the courtyard. He brushed his hands against each other, but they were smeared with the dirt of the stables and the oil of the polish. He glanced out, and of course it was Johanna.*
"Would ye like me t'take 'er for ye, Miss?"

*She shook her head merrily.*
"No, I think I can unsaddle her. I think I might give her a good grooming; her mane is mussed after all the wind."

"As it please ye," *he said, with a bowing of his head that was really more of a shrug before he ducked back into the tack room and to his work.*

*She hummed, as always, as she unsaddled the horse and threw the thing over the stall wall. She knew the tack would be picked up and cleaned properly, so she busied herself giving the creature a good long grooming; everything from currycombing to a proper combing to hoofpicking with her skirts hitched up accordingly (they were far too large and therefore in the way) to a mane-combing. The mare was a lovely creature, especially now after the special attention. Johanna rubbed her neck afterward, satisfied with her work and smiling because of it.*
"Yes, you're a pretty thing, aren't you?" *She murmured, before taking out a sugar cube to reward her for her day's work.*

*Robbie quietly came out and took the saddle to hang it up properly in the tack room.*

*She couldn't help but to turn once his back was to her, and watch him for a second. She shook her head and went back to stroking the horse. She wanted to say thank you, or something, but she couldn't think of words to do it that wouldn't be too familiar.*

*She gently sighed when she checked her wristwatch and realized it was nearly teatime. She'd have to go change and then greet visitors, many of whom had sons who were after her hand. Which was obnoxious.*
*She began to make her way out of the stables, skirts sweeping, but she paused in front of the door to the tack room.* "I... th... good afternoon." *She said awkwardly, before disappearing out the barn door to the safety of her bedroom.*

*Robbie looked up with some dumb shock as she spoke, and it was only long after she had returned to the house that his dry lips formed a response.*
"....G'day miss..." *he whispered softly.*
