Rather impressed, Christian's mouth shaped into an "O".
"You're fortunate, Mademoiselle Johanna. I wish I had had a similar opportunity."

*She blushed.* "Oh, it's not really that exceptional. No different than learning a language in school, really."

"But it is exceptional, mademoiselle!" Christian argued.
"And fancy that you don't have to go through the trouble of attending an educational facility to speak two languages."

"Three." *She admitted guiltily.* "She began teaching me German when I was nine. But really... I mean... it's not as if I do anything else exceptionally."

"Three! Even better," Christian said, grinning.
"Well, I'm sure you must have other talents."

*She shook her head embarrassedly.*
"Not a single one. I can't sing; play; draw; my dancing is middling; I can't even embroider properly."
*She hadn't mentioned writing. She didn't think she was particularly excellent at writing, but she knew she was above average, even if she'd shared the few stories she'd written with nobody. It had started when she'd read a particularly bad romance and convinced herself she could do better. It was really more for her own enjoyment anyway.*

Christian fell silent, at a loss with how to console the poor girl. And it was worse with the knowledge that he had most of the abilities she had rattled off.
"There must be something you can do."
His gaze fell to the book in her lap.
"You can read," he murmured. "What about writing?"

*She flushed a deep red.*
"Oh, I... I do... I mean I can, but I... it's never very good..."

Christian beamed.
"You don't know that," he gently chided. "Show me some of your writings!"

"I don't have any with me." *She responded, far too quickly to be entirely believable.* "Besides, they're silly."

"What may be silly to one man--er, woman--may be a work of genius to another... man."
Christian raised his brows.
"Do you write poetry, then? Or stories?"

"Stories." *She whispered, barely above breath.* "But they are silly! I only wrote them because I was convinced I could do the same as an author that has published works that are undoubtedly silly and frivolous and utterly without value."

"You never know what lies beneath the surface. And there are, in actuality, a horrid bunch of written works out there in the world with no other purpose than to rest upon the shelves of libraries and bookstores, covered in dust.
"From what I know of you, the same principle couldn't possibly apply. C'mon, show me," Christian pressed.

"No, I couldn't possibly..." *She protested meekly.*

"Come on," he insisted, gently nudging her.
"Please, I implore you."
