Isabelle had enjoyed her first day in Paris. After watching the performance, she had retreaded to the roof, to get some fresh air, and gaze on the stars on the dark sky above her. She was dressed in a red, long dress, that gave a special glow to her fair skin, and her long auburn curls.

Ethan watched the girl in pleasurable silence. She was beautiful, a clearly undoubtable fact.
After a considerable period, he strode over to where she stood.
"Mind if I join you?"

Isabelle turned around and looked up at a tall, handsome man. She blushed.
"Oh, please. Be my guest."
She laughed nervously, hoping he didn't belong to the nobles that probably were looking for her to force her back to England. She didn't want to get married. That's why she had escaped in the first place.

"Beautiful night out, isn't it?" he asked.
Despite this remark, Ethan's eyes remained fixated on Isabelle and not on the night sky.

Isabelle couldn't help but notice that his eyes were fixated on her, and she blushed, grateful for the darkness. The only light here on the roof was the light of the moon and stars above them.
"It is very enchanting here. So peaceful..."
She replied shyly.

"Just as you are enchanting," he boldly stated.
Ethan reached out to brush back a lock of her hair and seemingly plucked a scarlet rose from behind the girl's ear.
"For you," he offered.

Isabelle blushed deeply and graciously accepted the scarlet rose.
"Thank you."
She replied shyly and gave him a smile. Her smile brighened up her face and made her even more beautiful.

"You are most welcome," he replied, briefly kissing her hand.
"So it's the peace that brings you up here, is it?"

Isabelle smiled.
"Well, at least that is what I was hoping for."
There was something lost in her voice, and her eyes were sad for a moment. Then it was gone again and she smiled.
"They will never look for me here."

"Who is this 'they' that you speak of?" Ethan inquired, searching her eyes for that ephemeral sadness.

Isabelle stood there, looking over Paris by night as she tried to fight back her emotions. But she couldn't hide the sadness in her eyes, or in her voice.
"My parents. They try to force me into marriage with a man I don't love, so they can feed their own political ambitions."

Ethan frowned, sympathetic. He trailed one hand down her cheek with infinite tenderness.
"Parents will always attempt to obtain what they desire through their children. It's a terribly sad, cold truth. But you can always escape."

Isabelle blushed when she felt his hand against her cheek, then she smiled.
"Oh, I already did. The English king is probably furious right now, searching his castle to find me."

Ethan, startled, immediately dropped his hand to his side.
"Nobility?"

Isabelle sighed deeply. Everytime she told anyone who she was, it seemed like they were scared away from her. She was a bit tired of that.
"Isabelle Plantagenet d'Angoulême. Baroness of Upton, Countess of Angoulême and queen consort of England. I am sorry."
There was a hurt undertone in her voice, and the sadness in her eyes were there again.
