"He will." He said, with the certainty of the mad.
"I've latered the mix, you see...singleminded determination. He'll get there however he can, even if it means crawling along with no legs."

"But I just told you...you were working on this before..."

"It will work, it has to, it will, because...because...because it has to. I say so. It...yes. Works perfectly."
He pointed at the zombie.
"You. Wait outside by the shed in the backyard."
With no acknowedgement, the zombie turned and began shuffling up a flight of stairs.

"You were creating this before you had an excuse!"

He shrank back from the shouting, though he didn't back away.
"All to improve. Indeed, yes."
He couldn't quite remember why it needed improving, only that it had gone disastrously before.

"Improve what? How did this man die in the first place?"

"All...it..."
He covered his face with his hands.
"I don't know what I'm saying anymore." He choked out, the words half-sob.

Mira didn't need to be told twice. She ran to her room as fast as she could, locking the door and pushing her dressar in front of it.

Meanwhile, the zombie that had been ordered outside was slowly shuffling...toward Paris proper.

He watched the empty, open doorway of the laboratory for a while, seeing it but not really. His mind was elsewhere, in another place, another time.
Back when his life had still been in one piece.

**SOME TIME LATER** Finally freed of his stupor, Victor had gone to find the zombie, heading straight to where he'd directed it to go. It was not, of course, waiting there. Feeling a surge of panic, he started searching the castle's grounds, and nowhere was the undead thing to be found. He finally stopped, exhausted, on the hillside that served as the castle's front lawn. Staring at the glittering city below...and the footprints that led there. "Hell's bells." He murmured .

**EVEN MORE TIME LATER** Well, that was that. After a long, arduous search, he'd managed to hunt down the original zombie and destroy it, thus destroying most of the thing's spawn. Not all of the spawn had been demolished with the original's end, but he'd manage to find the stragglers and had (hopefully) ended every last one of them. Though even if there were only a few left, they weren't as volatile as the original creature and wouldn't create anymore (of that much, he was sure). Now if only he could think of a way to free his wife from that man.. .
