*With more than a little flour scattered and smeared about her person, Becca proudly finished scattering nuts across the top of the cake she'd just finished icing for Rudolf's birthday. He hadn't mentioned it...but he hadn't had to. She'd known for weeks and hadn't quite known what to do. The cake, well, it was the best she could do--and she didn't know what she could possibly buy as a gift for an emperor. She beckoned a maid to her and asked her to please summon Rudolf to the kitchen. Humming, she stuck a small, single candle in the top and lit it.*

*After emphatically telling a gaggle of servants that no, he didn't need them to follow him here, and ducking someone with yet another request, he finally reached the kitchen--alone. He was going to have some time with Rebecca when it was just the two of them, by god.
He'd walked in and was halfway to her before he noticed the cake*
"Becca--"
*He broke into a smile*
"Oh, my dear..."

*She picked up the cake on it's plate and held it out, the glow of the candle illuminating her face almost as much as her grin.*
"Happy birthday," *she said with a light apologetic shrug.* "It's hardly what it should be...but..."

"It's perfect. I wouldn't ask for more than that."
*The smile was now a big grin*

"Make a wish then," *she said, bouncing on the balls of her feet a little.*

*He pretended to think about it for a moment, feigning seriousness, before taking a breath and blowing out the candle. He was eyeing the cake now...it looked delicious*

*Becca set the cake back down and got a knife and some plates.*
"Dare I ask what you wished for, or will telling spoil it?" *she asked as she cut a generous slice for her fiance.*

"Wellll...I sort-of cheated when it came to the wish."

*She feigned shock.*
"...and so you bring the wrath of all the wish-granting powers down upon us?"

"But it's harmless, yes?" He said, playing along. "After all, it's something I already have..."

"Then you wasted a wish, you fool," *she said with overdone exasperation, rolling her eyes as she handed him his piece of cake and a fork, licking some icing from her thumb before she got her own.*

"There really isn't anything I'm missing," he said sincerely, as he took the plate.
He took a bite of cake, his response one of sighed contentment.
"This? Is great."

"It's my father's favourite. Maman taught me how to make it," *she said, beaming proudly.*

"Well, I'm glad she did. Now if only our cook could make desserts like this...not that cook's desserts are bad, per se, but they could be better."

"Love evidently lacks a tongue, as well as being blind," *she said, rolling her eyes at his praise of her cake.* "I put in three eggs too many."
