*Brandi remembered the duplex back home. The massive amounts of mud.*
"Oh yeah. I maybe be more used to cats, but I know that there's gonna be digging. And running tracks in it. And...yeah well, we can always re-sod if we need to." *She nodded comfortingly.*

"The other option is gravel or wood chips or something; but I'd just as soon not have them running or lying on rocks."

*Brandi frowned and shook her head quickly.*
"Oh no. Mud is much better."
*Her smile returned.*
"I don't mind a little extra laundry."

"Okay then," Kris smiled. "What do you think? Should we get started?"

"Hell yeah." *Brandi smiled brightly.*
"You want to cut or nail?"
*She started off to the shed/gym to grab some tools.*

Kris pondered which would cause the most damage.
"I should probably cut," she said. "I've had trouble gauging my own strength, lately."

*Brandi giggled.*
"Well that's a relief. I'm better with nails. I even don't hit myself much anymore. But I'm not sure I've graduated to sawing yet."
*She smiled back at Kris as she pulled open the door.*
"What sort of blade do you fancy?"

Kris shrugged.
"It doesn't really matter," she said. "Apparently I'm stronger than I think, and I can't hurt myself, so hey!"
She followed Brandi and picked up a basic hacksaw.
"This should do. Is it measure once, cut twice, or the other way 'round?"

*Brandi laughed.*
"I'm pretty sure it's the other way round."
*She dug up a hammer and a box of nails.*
"Shall we?"

Kris grinned in agreement, and they set to work. There was wood, and there were tools, and miraculously the plans Kris had drawn up were good enough to steer by so that the thing came gradually into form under their hands.

*It felt good to build again, to create with her hands and with a friend. To be productive for a good cause. Actually, there wasn't really any part of this that wasn't awesome. And they were making good progress.*
"This was a great idea. Just what we needed around here."

Kris laughed.
"Yeah, just wait until we're cleaning up poo, and fielding complaints from guests about the barking in the middle of the night," she said. But her face was lit up, as if she relished all of it.

*Brandi rolled her eyes, but didn't stop grinning.*
"Screw 'em. I can count the number of paying tenants on one hand. If it bothers them that much, I'll give them back all that they paid for the room."
*She offered a wink.*

"Or they could clean the poo," she suggested.

*Brandi burst out in laughter.*
"Oh yeah. That's much better. I'm sure they'd go for that."
*She lifted a piece she'd been assembling on the grass and nailed it into place with a proud smile.*
