Carlos bristled as the conversation went on above him, as if he wasn't even here, or was some dumb beast. Well... he sort of was. But that didn't make him happier. This had not gone at all as he had planned.
And what the hell was Maleo up to? He was weirder than Carlos had even suspected.

Marlow didn't answer, only grunted and shrank down into his human form.
"Why is it here?" he said, indicating the cat and then reaching down to pat it's head really very roughly, more like a smack.

Carlos ducked his head away from the man-creature's rough smack angrily. Well, he couldn't do anything. And couldn't hope to repair the damage done to his reputation without talking, and with this thing in the way.
Maybe he'd just leave.
He turned tail, though as a show of unconcern, not of cowardice, and sauntered towards the door.

"He was here because he probably wanted to frighten me for taunting him and his young ward he dragged with him to rehearsal. Or maybe even tear my face off. I don't know, he had just pounced me when you showed up."
Maleo frowned at Carlos taking his leave, but then again, he doubted that the tenor, in either form, would be able to stomach what was going to happen to the sopranist. But that did not mean he could not have one last jab at Carlos before he left.
"Tucking your tail between your legs already, Carlos?" he said, keeping his place on the bed, gaze fixed on the elder in front of him instead of the leaving cat.

Carlos, who had been afraid of the creature (it made his skin crawl, some sort of instinct the cat had) but was doing no such thing, turned slowly to the wall next to the door. He stretched leisurely and then rose onto his hind legs, as far as his front paws would reach, clawing great stripes in the wallpaper before nosing the door open and sauntering away.

Maleo rolled his eyes at Carlos' little display - tearing up the wallpaper, what a boring exit. Though he could not know that Castro intended to "have words" with him later on, he had some of his own he would convey to the tenor for his benefit when they next met.
For now he slipped around and past Marlow to shut the door behind the great cat, then returned to his Master's side, readying himself for another round of punishment for not having fulfilled his purpose as a fledgling strigoi.
