*Lizzie stopped and sighed.*
"Things 'ave been pretty crazy recently. Pa died."
*She grew quiet for a moment, but pushed on.*
"Jamie an' Kip came to live here, and...well...Jake found himself a girl he likes an' they got all promised. But..."
*She shrugged.*
"Kip had half a mind 'ta go after the same bird, poor thing. Just...things been a bit complicated since then."

At the mention of her father Alex impulsively laid a hand against Lizzie cheek.
"Oh, no. I'm sorry," she said, not knowing what to do. "I..."
She blinked at the litany of weird.
"That is a sight more drama than I've seen on stage lately, I must say."

*Lizzie seemed...ok all in all. She'd kinda moved past it.*
"Eh, so is the life of a Quinn." *She smiled gently, hoping Alex wasn't changing her mind.*
"But they're sweet as pie, really. I swear they're warm enough. 'Specially..."
*She nodded to Alex's dress.*
"They know how 'ta treat a lady."
*Predicting a comment, she leaned in with a grin.*
"Though they don't always 'dentify them on sight well. 'Ya should pass just fine."

Alex grinned. Maybe this would work.
If she didn't think about it.
"I don't know," she said, with mock concern. "What if I sit with my legs crossed wrong? Or start scratching...?"

*Lizzie grinned mercilessly.*
"Then they'll just think we're two peas in a pod."
*She started towards the kitchen, as if the matter was settled.*
"Fraid we ain't too cultured 'round here."

Alex raised an eyebrow.
"Good. I'm hardly good at standing on ceremony."
She followed after, with the air of one walking into the Coliseum.

"The 'ya should do just fine."
*Lizzie entered the kitchen and turned back to Alex.*
"Don't suppose 'ya know how'ta make biscuits, eh?" *She said with a grin.*

Alex shook her head ruefully.
"I can pour a drink. That's about it. I'm afraid I'm not a good prospect, housekeeping-wise."

*Lizzie gave a gentle laugh.*
"Don't fret none. 'Ya just have a seat an' I'll see 'ta it. Want somethin' to drink?"

Alex smiled gratefully and sat.
Drinking had gotten her into this mess.
"Er... not just now," she said. "Thanks."

"Ya sure?" *Lizzie looked a bit confused.*
"I made fresh lemonade an' everythin'."
*She gave a hopeful smile.*

Alex blinked.
"Oh. Er, lemonade. Yes, that'd be lovely. Thanks."

*Lizzie smiled, oblivious to any inner conflict Alex might be going through. She just figured it was nerves about meeting the boys. She poured her a glass and set it in front of her.*
"Ya been well? I mean...I wasn't expecting 'ya..." *She questioned gently. What she really wanted yo know was what had made her changed her mind.*

Alex took a too-large swallow of lemonade, so it was some time before she could respond.
"I'm sorry," she apologized when she could. "If it's a bad time..."

*Lizzie's eyes widened as she caught Alex's arm.*
"Oh no! 'Course not. Always glad 'ta have 'ya. It's just...yer a surprise."
*She smiled sweetly.*
"In a good way."
