*Duchess María Sheila de Lefévre arrived her castle after her return from the Opera. The servants had gone to bed, and everything in the house was quiet. Too quiet.
Exhaused after all the events of tonight, she made her way to her bedroom. After locking in her jewelry and changing into her nightgown she went to bed and closed her eyes, hoping she would get a peaceful night at last.*

Outside the wind howled around the castle, the sound of it deadened by the thick walls. The rain lashed it mercilessly. The trim figure of a boy leapt soundlessly through Maria's window, soaked through and disgusted with it.

*María had fallen asleep at last. She was having nightmares again. Even in her sleep, the ghosts that tormented her wouldn't leave her alone. She shifted anxiously on the bed, wimpering in her sleep.*

Armand's startled gaze flew to the mortal in the bed. He hadn't noticed her- how crass of him. But then, he he hadn't been thinking much at the time; get out of the rain, and that was really about it. Besides, in that downpour he could hardly hear himself think, much less another.
If he'd been in town this wouldn't have been a problem. But no, he'd seen the castle and had been curious. It was too cliche. The storm outside, the girl in the bed- even a white nightgown. She'd wake up, see him, and scream, and he'd bite her, the classic vampire creeping into women's bedrooms at night. Wasn't there supposed to be a balcony too? With billowing drapes?
But it wasn't as though he were going to wake her up. He could just lean against this wall here and wring out his clothes, and perhaps she would sleep through the storm and there wouldn't be a problem.
Still disgusted, Armand raked his wet hair out of his face. Water trickled down his skin and fell off his clothes in little undignified plops.

*Maria threw herself around on the bed. In her dreams, she was chased by a ghost on a horse. The horse was galloping after her, and she was running to get away from it's thundering hoves. Right when the horse was about to run her down, she woke up with a scream.
She opened her eyes and looked around in the room with frightened eyes, trying to calm down her rapid breath.*
"Oh thank God,"
*She whispered.*
"It was only a dream...."

Armand stood there, in the shadows, and dripped.
Suddenly the woman screamed. Armand closed his eyes. God, he hated cliches.
He pressed himself against the wall, hoping she wouldn't see him in the darkness.

*María pulled the blanket closer around her as her eyes wandered over the room. The window... hadn't she closed it before she went to bed? She couldn't remember. But now it was open. She lit the candle in the candlestake on her nightstand, then got out of bed to close the window.
Still tired she did not notice the young man hidden in the darkness.*

Really, it was inevitable. Armand gave it up.
To Maria, it would look as though a pale, ghost-like boy had just stepped out of thin air. His eyes were solumn, dark, and much less human than they could have been. The wet curls plastered to his face made him look like a drowned rat further emphasized his pale skin and dark eyes.
He was also sort of annoyed, but none of that showed on his face.

*The Duchess turned around and discovered a pale, ghost-like boy stepping out of thin air. His eyes were solumn and dark, and the wet curls plastered to his face made him look like a drowned rat, and further emphasized his pale skin and dark eyes.
María gasped in horror and backed against the wall. She had seen a lot of frightening things in her young life, but this was some of the worst she had ever encountered.*
"W-who are you? And what are you doing here?"

Such dramatics. Armand devoured these things whole. Scare the innocents, drive them mad, etc.
It was the work of an instant to pull her name from her frightened mind. Names were so deeply imprinted in one's conscious that they were the easiest thing to learn.
"I'm here for you, Maria. Why else would i have come?"

*The Duchess pulled closer to the wall, her face slowly turning white, her soft lips trembling from an unnamed fear.*
"How do you know my name? And i-its María, after my Spanish Grandmother."
*She froze by his words.*
"What do you want from me?"

"Your dreams," Armand said slowly, softly, a gentle smile on his lips. "You don't think I couldn't hear them? So loud, and so troubled. You called to me, beloved, and so I've come."

*María's face went pale and she backed as far back in the room as she possibly could. Her breathing went faster, she was about to hyperventilate, and there was something chased in her gaze.*
"W-what do you know about my dreams? Stay away from me!"
*She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to stop herself from trembling.*
"B-beloved? I am not your beloved! I don't belong to anyone! And I haven't called you! How could I? I-I don't even know you!"

"Of course you did," Armand said dreamily. One white hand extended slowly, gracefully, as he drifted closer. "I heard you, and I came. Don't turn away from me now, love. It's too late for all this."

*Duchess Maria's trembling body pressed against the wall as hard as she possibly could come. Her beautiful golden eyes filled with tears and her lips started trembling.*
"I AM NOT YOUR LOVE!!!" *She screamed.* "STAY AWAY FROM ME!!!"
