"She only wanted you to be together..." Herbert said weakly.

*Very carefully, he set Belle down, folding her hands over her stomach. Slowly, gracefully, he stood back up. He turned eyes blazing with fury toward Herbert*
"There was a reason why I didn't want it. Because I didn't...want to risk...THIS!"
*His voice started off at a normal level, but quickly rose until it matched the look in his eyes*
"AND SEE WHAT HAS HAPPENED!!!"

Herbert recoiled from his father, the fear showing in his eyes, and just as quickly straightened up defiantly.
"It was her decision- you wanted to keep her just how you wanted her- like you've always done with me-"

*Krolock was looming now, his expression a thundercloud*
"Mind your words, boy. I wanted her ALIVE. You have gone and ended that."

"Keeping me in the bloody castle for seventy years- a hundred if you count all the restrictions before that-"

"What the hell are you talking about?! You were ALWAYS free to leave! You wanted to move out--move out! I'm not stopping you!"
*He glanced back at Belle, then to Herbert*
"And this situation has nothing to do with the past! This is about NOW, about you killing my future wife!"

Herbert's chest was heaving now.
"You say that- you always say that- I was never free to go! You made that abundantly clear, mein Vater, abundantly clear- 'the world is a dangerous place, boy'-"
He looked at his father.
"She loved you! She loved you as much as Mama ever did, if not more! She asked me to- could you have ever been happy knowing she would die one day? Or do you only turn the ones you intend to dispose of within a year or so!?"

"Did I ever restrain you? Physically keep you shackled? NO. You could have left whenever you wanted, and you know it.
And I didn't want her to be turned because I didn't want her to have to become--"
*His voice broke, but when he spoke again, there was no evidence it had happened*
"--a monster like me."

"From what I've seen, Vater, you scarcely changed at all," Herbert said viciously. "Not like me... not when I was normal, when I wasn't pathetically clinging to you-"

"I see. Really feel that way, do you? Really don't care that you just killed someone, hmm? All right then. You want to get away from me? You want to be 'free', do you? Then, my dear, dear boy...
GET. OUT. OF. MY. HOUSE! AND DON'T COME BACK HERE!"

"Oh, believe me, I'm never coming back here, not after what you made me into- some kind of dependent freak!" Herbert shouted.
He stormed toward the door and paused to look back at his father.
"She loved you, Vater," he said quietly. "And you would know better than most that the dead come back."
He turned his back on the Graf and strode back to the ballroom.

"No," he said to the room. "They don't always come back. Sometimes...they stay gone."
*He bent down and gently picked up Belle*
"And those they leave behind, lose a part of themselves." He said hoarsely.
With an even gait, he left the room, carrying her in his arms
