*Malefica smiled warmly.*
"Let me tell you something, son. If she has decided to love you, you will be the only one that can make her happy. She will be deeply unhappy by being separated from you."

*Gawain frowned, but tried to minimize it, processing the information.*
"Then she too, has become my responsibility. I bound to seeing her happy."

*Malefica smiled warmly and placed her hand on his arm.*
"You should follow your heart, my son. If you find out you love her, I think there will be no problems. And if you find that you don't love her, and tell it to her straight, she will accept it. She doesn't seem like the hysterical type of girlfriend to me."

*Gawain did not look so convinced.*
"She spent the brief time we shared this morning between giddiness and tears, Mother."
*His brow lowered.*
"Perhaps I am unclear on your definition of 'hysterical'."

*Malefica smiled with a glimpse of humor in her eyes.*
"Giddiness and tears, you say? You are lucky. Hysterical girls use to yell, scream and shout, beat you with their hands or whatever objects they can get their hands on, and throw things after you. Nightfall seems pretty calm to me."
*Then she became serious.*
"And Nightfall in tears? For me it sounds like she's in love, but is afraid her love is not returned. Even so, she may be too proud to admit it, to not cause you any problems."

*Gawain looked troubled.*
"If the gravity of the subject is so severe, perhaps I should retire to meditation on it. I would not wish to leave the girl in such intense suspense."

*Malefica smiled mildly.*
"I would suggest you think over what you feel for her. When you are certain, you can tell her. No matter what the answer may be, she will be grateful for finally getting a reply. The worst thing for a girl, is the uncertainty about whether her feelings are returned or not."

*Gawain pursed his lips.*
"And this...answer...it is more important than my Guardian training then?"

*Malefica smiled again.*
"My son, many of the Guardians have been married. As long as their wives promise to never hinder them at fulfilling their roles as guardians, there are no problems. You can both serve the Grail - as a couple."

*Gawain shook his head slowly, his eyes grave.*
"That is not the calling I was bidden to, Mother. When I was chosen..."
*His words faded and his eyes fell.*
"I may not take her as my wife."

*Malefica looked back at Gawain with a smile.*
"Why not, my son? Our superiors, of course. I rebelled against them, and got myself two wonderful children. I will never regret my choice."
*She looked up at him again.*
"And even if you are not allowed to take her as your wife, there are other solutions."

*Gawain's brow smoothed as he offered a shrug, his eyes still averted.*
"None that will make her truly happy. And that's what she deserves."

*Malefica smiled gently and looked over at him.*
"And you, my son? What will make you truly happy? A life with or a life without Nightfall? You have to be honest with yourself when you decide to give her up, or you may regret it later. Can you stand to see her in the arms of another man? Or even think of it? I know she is not the kind of girl who would leave you for another, but still these questions can help you decide your own feelings."

*Gawain met her eyes with a sudden indignation.*
"And since when is this so desperate to be settled?" *His words were sharp.*
"I thought you wanted me to reflect. And now it is as if you assume that I have already abandoned her. Is it so wrong that I should wish to think things out before I assume to know the truth of them? It would make me happy to be a dutiful Guardian, to serve the Grail as I was intended. But now I am set to this...other matter with the full ferocity of all my focus. Mother, this is my first day of logical comprehension. I have had a bit of a long night, seeing as it was spent in the forced advancement of myself to better your own goals, so if you don't mind too much, perhaps I should take my leave."
*His body was tense, muscles taut, but he did not leave without being granted dismissal.*

*Malefica looked up at her son, surprised to hear him use such sharp words against her. But before she could open up her mouth to reply, Merlin placed a hand on her shoulder as to hold her back. Turned to Gawain, Merlin replied warmly.*
"You may take your leave, son. And don't worry about your mother. I'll keep her so busy she can't stop your meditation with her chattering for the next three hours..."
*He winked at Gawain in a friendly manner, and threw a sword over to Malefica.*
"That's enough, Madame Lazybones". *He said sternly to her.* "Back to your training."
