"...no..." *her whisper was laced with pointed agony.* "...I said...you weren't supposed to know..."
*Her eyes fell shut.*
"I'm dreaming this. It's a dream."

Percy stroked her hair.
"What wasn't I supposed to know, love?" he asked, keeping his voice gentle.

"That I was alive!" *she choked on the words.*

((WOMAN! Get on the verse chat!))
Percy smiled gently.
"That I always knew," he said softly. Then his eyes turned serious.
"Vianne, what happened? I know Gerard kidnapped you, but why are you so ill?"
His fists clenched. "Did he hurt you?"

((I'm TRYING! My parent's computer has no Java and is slower than molasses in winter and my sister inadvertantly wiped her iPod's harddrive so she's starting from scratch and I'll never see my laptop again at this rate. Might have to restart firefox.))
"Y-yes..." *she whispered, hot tears spilling down her cheeks as she turned her face away from Percy, unable to bear the sight of him, the hatred in his eyes when he knew...when she told him.*

Percy tilted her head up.
"Tell me everything."

*Vianne's voice caught in her throat as the fullness of that sharp blue gaze caught and held hers with such utter love and trust that it tore her heart to think of what he demanded she tell him. She closed her eyes and found the words, barely able to force them past her lips between half-hysterical sobs and gasps for breath. And she told him everything. Of Gerard and his torture. Of the club. Of Erik. Of the drugs. And of the cursed child that waxed to fullness within her even while it wrung the very life from her flesh. After a long time, she fell silent. After a long silence, she dared meet his gaze.*
"Please...dear God, Percy, don't look at me like that, please God, you can't...you...you should never have come here, you should go, you should go!" *she wept all the while, turning away from him as if trying to hide herself from the wretched truth.*

Percy was quiet until she was finished.
And then he swooped down and kissed her, a sweet, lingering touch.
"Love," he whispered against her mouth, "my love. Have I not told you many times, there is nothing on this earth that will make me leave you?"
"You will live through this, Vianne. You will."
He straightened and put a tender hand on her swollen belly.
"Do you know if it is Erik's child?" he asked tenderly.

*She shook her head, numb with shock.*
"Gerard made certain...I knew...I knew before Erik found me."

Percy nodded slowly, deep in thought.
"Vianne...I think it is your life we must try to save now."
He looked down at her.
"Do you understand?"

"...short of a miracle, I don't think you can, Percy," *she said, shaking her head.* "If you'll only hold me for a little while...if I should breathe my last in your arms...I should only be moving from one heaven to the next. I am not afraid."

"I swear you'll live, Vianne," he muttered, slipping into bed beside her and pulling her close.
"By God, I swear it."
Or by Death, whichever can keep you with me

"The doctor...he has been here before...and he wanted me to..."
*She peered up into Percy's face.*
"I cannot...not to a child. Whatever its parentage. I have no right to--"
*she buried her face in his waistcoat, unable to speak of it, unknowing that the choice had been taken from her hands and made by a higher power. She had ignored the pain throughout the day, certain it was only another annoyance of her condition. Now, she felt the sudden, sickening rush of liquid heat between her thighs, and she screamed at the sight of blood soaking the counterpane before she became insensible.
The doctor rushed back into the room, alerted by her outcry, and quickly delivered her of a dead child--nothing standing out as recognizably human amid the mass of blood and quivering tissue.*
"A blessing," *muttered the doctor as he tidied the place as best he could.* "God has done what she would not."
*He looked sharply at Percy.* "She is not out of danger yet...time will tell if she will be able to eat or drink soon enough to save her. And even so, the passage was perilous. She had best not have any more children, if it can be helped."

*Erik hovered outside, overhearing everything and unable to tear himself away. He felt a crushing remorse, not for what he'd done that night with Vianne, but for his lack of attention to her needs. Hadn't he brought her food every day? Spoken to her? Why had she not said? What was he to do?
He hated her, somewhat, for not telling him. For letting herself die, but slowly this time, not in the bath.*
