"Aww... what happened next?"
*She was sure the first man would find a way to prove his love, and the two of them would live happily ever after. That's how it happened in her books, usually.*

"Well...the man had never been in love. He tried confessing his love, but the words of the other man had clouded the eyes of his intended. He didn't know where to turn, so he went to the oracle. She was very wise, although she was trapped in the body of a young girl. He climbed many steps to her temple. Then he cried out, 'Oh, Oracle...please aid me. My love is taken by another.'"
*Julian acted the part dramatically, looking to Pina.*
"And what did she say, this oracle? How could he win the love he so desperately craved?"
*He paused and looked at her expectantly.*

*She grinned, glad to play a part in the story, that, she now realized wasn't a story at all.*
"Well, she said..." *Pina thought about this for a moment.* "Love is the most important thing in the world, and when you find it you can't let it go, ever. And you can't share it, but you can't take it away, either. But if it's true, you can make it work out in the end."
*She hoped her response had been good enough."

*Julian sighed. At least he had tried. He kept up the story.*
"The man looked at the oracle, confused by her riddle. But he knew that it was something that he must sort out for himself. So he made the perilous journey, over mountain and ocean, to visit the serpent goddess."
*He did his best impression.*
"Ah....you are a man in a terrible spot. I will help you, but there is a cost."
*Julian paused, looking to Pina knowingly.*
"There is always a cost in these sorts of affairs."

((What, you want me to be helpful at this hour? Pbbbt!))
*She looked a bit embarrassed. She knew her response hadn't been exactly helpful. But she returned her attention to the story, grinning at his impression of the snake.
*She nodded.*
"What was it?"

*Julian smiled, continuing in his serpent-y voice.*
"You must let me show me your spell book."
*His voice was his own for a quick aside.* "For the man was a sorceror."
*He continued.* "And you must come to stay with me for a month every year during which time you will have to live as a snake."
*Julian's eyes widened.*
"Well...the man knew that this was much to ask, but he's love was so great, that he agreed."

*She nodded, indicating that he should go on. The story was getting good.
She felt sorry for the scorcerer, but she knew of the power love had, from her other stories. She was sure it would end happily. They always did.*

"The serpent goddess gave him a potion..." *Julian continued.*
"He didn't know what it would do. Only that it would help. And so he took it without question. As he drank it he felt sick, for it tasted foul, but he thought only of his love and making things right. He felt funny. Looking down, he noticed that his hands looked weird. Upon closer inspection, he realized that he had been made to look like the one he loved! Now that was strange indeed. However would he be able to make things right looking like this?"

*She thought about it. It seemed to her that the only way that would help would be through deceit. That bothered her, a bit, that the hero of the story would do something like that. Though... it was for love. That helped his case quite a bit.*
"He could... he could trick the other person."

"Pina? Sweetie?"

*She froze and looked from the door to Julian, panic in her wide eyes.*
"Go away," *She shouted, hoping that she wouldn't open the door.*

Megan slowly stuck her head in.
"Bath time."

*She practically dove off the bed and raced to the door. No need to make her mother more worried or angry by disobeying. She'd already be in enough trouble.*
"Okay.

Megan gave Julian a cold look and led Pina by the hand to the bathroom.

*Pina followed her mother meekly into the room and waited for her to get the water ready. She didn't speak- Megan was getting the silent treatment.*
