"Nothing has made sense since you got here!" *he shouted, exasperated.* "Listen, because Erik will only say this once: Christian Daae is from another parallel world, where I am a woman and he is a man. But he is here, now, and he loves me--he says so! And it's her, I know he's her down to every note, every pore... Only, he doesn't hate Erik yet. And he cannot. Ever."

"But... there is a woman you here, remember? And... and she likes girls..."

"Yes, well, she's different! There's another woman me, in another world. Or whatever," *Erik said, running a hand through his hair but finding it much less fluffy than usual.*
"Damn, am I ugly again?"

"By comparison," Megan said delicately.

*Erik frowned, making himself even uglier.*
"It seems to happen with Erik is angry," *he said, which reminded him that he was, indeed, angry. But he was surprised by the control Megan had shown in answering him nicely, which confused matters even more so that his shoulder slumped in defeat.* "Erik thought you would understand."

"I try to. Common courtesy..."
She set the sleeping baby aside and went up to him, gently touching his cheek.
"Does the fact that I love you mean nothing?"

"Not... nothing," *he said quietly.* "Just... not enough."
*Couldn't she see? His heart ached for Christine. For Christian. For completion.*

Megan drew back, giving him a look that asked how he could not understand how much she needed him.

((Haha... You're expected Erik to read facial expressions, now?))
*His face shifting back into its more pleasing form, he narrowed his eyes.*
"Is that a no?" *he asked softly.*

((It was more like dramatic wangsty irony- she looked at him with the same desperation he was looking at her.))
Megan shuddered slightly; watching his face shift back to a more pleasing appearance was actually a bit more disturbing than its natural state.
"I can't stay here," she sighed, "but I have nowhere to go. What will happen to me if you leave with Christian- and does he even... go that way?"

*Erik blinked.*
"Why should you leave?" *he asked, genuinely puzzled.* "Have I not offered to care for you, and the child? For that matter, why should Erik leave? He has no plans to."
*He frowned.*
"Which way are you speaking of?"

"I mean," Megan said in a rather heavy and tired voice, "does he prefer the company of men?"

"Oh. Well, one, at any rate, which is all Erik is asking of him."

"And what will become of me, Erik? Am I to just hang around as your charity case?"

*Erik threw up his hands in exasperation.*
"Erik doesn't know what you want him to do, beyond what he has! He never promised you anything; he never chose who to love. Did you?"
