The little creature curled its arms around Julian's ribcage, settling.
"Do not know...men go short time, then....long-sleep."

*Julian pondered the answer for a short while, then came up with one of his own.*
"He is old-er, I suppose. But he is still fully functional."
*He returned to his affections, enjoying the sensation of the sharkman's skin under his fingertips.*

It trilled softly and pushed its snout up against the man's neck, tucking it under Julian's chin.
"Dead-face men dream?"

*Julian paused, his eyes seeking the other's in curiosity.*
"Excuse me? Do you mean Erik?"
*He didn't mean to be rude, he just hadn't caught that last part.*

"No, long-sleep men. Henry, Marcello, Gran-t-arr...they dream? Long dreams? Good?"
It raised its head enough to blink back at Julian.

"Oh." *Julian answered flatly. It was a tough question for one that had never been dead. And in all probability never would be.*
"I don't know the answer to that question."
*He lowered his eyes, his voice growing sad as his caress grew slower.*
"I will most likely never know."

Izame felt as if it should know the answer, but it escaped the creature, and it never dwelt on anything for long.
"Shark too...no cry cry, Julian..."
It keened and sat up a bit, curling its arms around the man's shoulders and nuzzling his cheek.

*Julian accepted the comfort without question. It was a strange feeling, to be here like this and without Erik, but at the same time, it was much appreciated. He turned his face to press it against the cool skin of Izame's snout more fully and leaning his weight against the other's body gently. Shutting his eyes, he whispered in realization.*
"I don't want him to die."
*Julian had never really dealt with the potential death of his mother and now that he was, the whole world seemed to be hanging heavily on him.*

Izame tucked Julian up against itself, sorry for having brought up such questions.
"Care care Julian. Is good, can make move metal like Gran-t-arr, yes? No cry cry...please."

*He could. He would. He wouldn't lose him. Julian gripped the creature firmly, holding him like some anchor, some promise that it would be all right. But something lingered in the back of his mind and he leaned back to whisper softly.*
"But...I thought you didn't approve."

"Not for Gran-t-arr...no choice for. Care care Erik choose stay with Julian, stay. No cry cry cry for choice."
It clicked a bit and touched Julian's hair, curling up against him again, around him as much as its tiny frame would allow.
"Is good. But no cry cry f' Erik to choose long-sleep. Much time men tire, want long-sleep. Shark stay with Pretty then if, Care care Julian. Keepsafe."

But you can't...care for me like he can.
*Julian wondered what Erik would choose, given the choice. Surely he would stay. He must...but then he remembered Christian and realized that Erik "must" not do anything that he didn't want to. He felt himself fluster. There was no forcing, only compromise. But how did one compromise on such things?*
"He'll stay..." *He murmured.* "He'll stay..."
He has to.

"Is good. Long away, not think now."
It bumped its snout against Julian's ear huffing a tickling bit of air against it.
"More pets for shark, okay?" Its mouth parted in a serrated smile.

*Julian nodded, his hands growing more active against, the feeling of the creature beneath his fingers tried to concrete him in the present, to avoid the painful and inevitable future. He wasn't ready. Not yet. He carefully massaged the length of the creature, noting muscle developemnt beneath the skin.*
"Better?"

It gave its clicking purr and settled down half across Julian again, kneading at his shirt with not-yet-hardened claws.
"Is good."
It smiled and curled its head over on Julian's chest, letting its eyes close.
"Still pet when shark skin like little teeth?"
