*Julian moved forward instinctively to help, but found himself unsure of what was needed.*
"Can I...do something?" *He offered, unsure.*

Mortimer had never seen the chamber before, nor so many mirrors all in one place, arranged so.
He gave a hibitual little "ooh" and then stood back with his arms folded behind him to resist the temptation to touch all the smooth surfaces.

Erik chuckled.
"Go ahead, Mortimer," he said. I haven't taken everything down yet. We can leave the mirrors, if you wish. They are watertight."
He smirked to himself at that last.

"Can we leave one wall of them up, at the side of the room?"
He didn't want to completely surrounded, it seemed that it would be too confusing like that, and he would wind up running into the glass during his swims.

((Aww. *bump bump bump*))
"Certainly," Erik said. "We can do anything you like." He made a note on his plans, then began carefully dismantling the rest of the mirrored room, carefully taking everything apart. While seamless when finished, he had constructed everything to be movable if necessary, for no real reason than he could.

*Julian seemed quiet and perhaps a little reflective (no pun intended) but he was as helpful as he could manage, moving sheets of glass and securing mechanical elements. He wanted the sharkman to be happy. And more importantly, to stay down in the cellars with him and Erik. Hopefully this would help encourage that.*

When they'd worked on the thing for a couple of hours, Mortimer stretched and announced that Julian needed to rest.

At Mortimer's announcement, Erik looked round. Without that connection, he could not feel Julian's fatigue--nor had he ever known Julian to tire. He frowned, and went to Julian's side.
"You needn't strain yourself," he said softly, at a loss but knowing better than to show it too deeply. "Erik can finish."

*Julian looked up to Erik, crouched as he was and studying the plan carefully. Was he tired? How could he tell? He blinked slowly, trying to understand.*
"I...I only wished to help."
*He looked to Mortimer in confusion. He felt so out of place.*

Erik laid a hand on Julian's shoulder. "You may continue, if you feel like it," he said. "Or rest, if you wish."
If he was human now, Julian would need to eat and sleep. Well, some, anyway, though if he took after Erik it would not be much. If he took after Nadir...

*Julian looked perplexed. He didn't know what he was, what this new...state had afforded him. But the lack of normalcy was frustrating.*
"Perhaps." *He said, uncertain to which he meant by it.*
"I might try." *He stood, staring blankly for a moment, not sure what he was supposed to do. Why was this so hard?*

Erik rose with him, his hand at Julian's elbow.
"Are you hungry? An empty feeling, in the pit of your stomach," he prompted. "Not caused by nerves or fear. Or tired. You needn't be, of course, but you must tell Erik what you're feeling, or he cannot help you."
It was frustrating. He was so used to knowing.

The little man padded over and reached up to touch Erik's shoulder, then took Julian's hand.
"Don't crowd him, Erik. It's frightening enough suddenly changing state, it's hard to tell what's what at first and making him think about it will only be confusing." He certainly knew that first hand, and he gave Julian's fingers a squeeze and smiled at him.
"Come on, Pretty, I'll help you find something good to eat."

*Julian looked down to the sharkman's hand in his own. It looked strange there even though it had nested there hundreds of times. He looked up to Erik, wondering how the man could ever crowd him. Julian had always been of the mind that there was no 'too close' to his mother. It made little sense, but then again, much of today hadn't. His eyes lingered on Erik's before dropping to Mortimer. He managed to nod, ready to follow where he led.*

What was this? Erik stared after the two of them, utterly confused. What made Mortimer think he knew what was best, suddenly? How was he crowding Julian any more than Mortimer was? Erik merely asked questions, attempting to instruct Julian and determine what he needed. He had not, as yet, issued orders. Though Julian seemed happy enough to go along with them. Which was not something Erik could relate to.
Instead, he sulked, toeing a loose timber and shoving his hands deep into his trouser pockets. Bad enough everyone was leaving him.
