Steerpike stood just behind the curtain at the side of the stage. There was already a minor minister at the podium, addressing the assembled nobility.
Eva squirmed in his arms and made a soft fussing noise, and he shushed her as gently as he knew how to.
"You're going to help us more than you know," he whispered to the sleepy baby, before turning to smile somewhat grimly at Eleanor.

As the minor minister left the podium, Steerpike lead his queen out to the stage while his infant daughter yawned adorably.
Someone in the audience went "Awww!" and was met with a glare.

*It seemed he was waiting for her to start. She turned to the crowd, taking care not to upstage her husband*
"There have been repeated complaints recently about a drought", *she began.*

Leetah made it just in time to hear the begining of the speech.
She frowned and crossed her arms as she glared at the people above her.

"The blame for this has been repeatedly placed upon our shoulders," Steerpike added.

*There was a murmur among the crowd, who seemed a bit surprised that this was being addressed outright.*

"This is a development that I frankly find... disappointing," he said calmly.
"The constant refrain is 'why is the King not doing anything about this?, yet I am reasonably sure that no-one here has attempted to do any part in solving this themselves. Is this correct?"
He smirked.
"What a pity."

"You pride yourselves in possessing magic that us lowly humans do not. So it must be asked: why is nothing being done?"

Nightfall pushed through the crowd angrily until she found her mother "What the hell is going on here?" The she noticed the the king and queen and began to stand just as her mother had, only her expression taking more of the form of a bull dog, than a angry child.

"I will confess to it now, though I believe everyone already knew it: I killed King Orduag."

Steerpike glared at the crowd.
"I won't deny it," he said quietly. "But is that what you wanted? The slightest dissent punished with torture? Your womenfolk under constant threat of rape? Would you have had him continue with that rather than have his murderer?"

*Figwit watched from out of sight, at the edges of the crowd. So he was admitting it. Orduag had been an abomination among Elven kind, true, and had to be got rid of. But not like this.
When was the right moment to move?*
