Armand appeared like a ghost out of the crowd, walking with even, measured steps towards Marius. He'd debated feeding before going to see his old master, wondering whether Marius would see something more in his flushed cheeks and warm skin then there was to see. In the end he'd found it ridiculous that he'd spent as much time as he did over it. It came down to this: he was hungry, so he fed. Whether or not this would liken him in Marius's eyes to the mortal boy he'd once been, he didn't know.
At least his mind and heart were calm now, rather than the quiet chaos of two nights ago.
Armand skipped up the steps, eyes on his feet to avoid tripping. At the top he looked up, and caught his master's eye.
...Well. Relatively calm, anyways.

*His heart quickened at the sight of Amadeo approaching him finally after all this time. He hesitated, though all he wanted to do was to draw him into his arms and act as if none of the events of the past four hundred years had transpired.*
"Would you come to me now, Amadeo?"

"Of course."
Armand approached, stopping just before the other vampire. He tilted his face toward Marius's and waited.

*No more hesitation. He quickly closed the space between them and locked his arms around him in a strong, desperate embrace.*

It was impossible to be held by Marius and not analyze it; it was impossible not to analyze something Armand hadn't felt or experienced in hundreds of years. It wasn't the act itself but the immortal performing it, and as Armand slipped his arms around Marius's waist, or as much as he could pinned in the other vampire's embrace, he felt a little rush of dizziness, the old sickness that accompanied déjà vu.
Armand had not, even in the dying clutches of his victims, ever experienced an embrace so desperate. It was like he was something to cling to, essential to life instead of taking it. Enveloped in his master's arms, cold and marble-hard with age, Armand reflected, a little bitterly, that Marius still made him feel like a child.

"I've missed you, Amadeo," *he said after a while, pulling back so as to look at him properly for the first time in so many years.*

"And I you, Master."
Even if it wasn't strictly true, Armand could at least follow the niceties. There was, for instance, the matter of the 400-year time span in which Marius did not miss him enough to come find him. Did time make him more appealing in Marius's memory, he wondered, appealing enough to be hunted down to see if he still looked as an angel?

*He didn't mean it, Marius could tell by the cold formality in his voice. He had suspected as much, though he'd wished otherwise, but it was foolish to hope. He'd been away for too long.*

Marius's hands were still on his shoulders. Armand gazed at him levelly.
"What brings you to Paris?"

*He drew his hands back, not expecting Armand's almost defiant gaze.*
"I was tired of isolation," *he said truthfully.* "I wanted to be amongst mortals again." *He hadn't expected to find Armand there.*

"You will like this city, then. The mortals are as numerous as the rats."

"I've seen that for myself. They're everywhere, at all hours of the night. They don't sleep here, it seems."
*Talking about something inconsequential, guarding his words, guarding his emotions- this shouldn't have to happen with Amadeo. Nothing was as it used to be, as much as he wished it so. He would have to be careful and very patient.*

"That's right. You will like it- at any time of night you can go into a cafe and have philosophical discussions with perfect strangers, or visit the Opera for the societal definition of culture." A pause. "You've seen it for yourself? How long have you been here?"

"Not long," *he said.* "A few days."
*He wouldn't say the real reason that he'd come- Lestat had told him he could find Amadeo here, and so changed. He'd known, yes, but he had to see for himself.*
((Iiii think I need to read TVL again now.))

A few days. Armand was silent.
Then he looked up again, and his exression was smooth and nuetral, with perhaps a little expectance. "Would you like to walk with me, Master? Unless- " he gestured behind them, at the impressive and curli-cued front of the opera house, "You'd rather see an opera?"
