*Malefica chuckled with laughter and released her son.*
"Of course you are, sweetie. I'm sorry. It's hard to break old habits. I always used to bathe you when you was a baby. But you didn't reply to my question."

*Gawain just shrugged, sloshing back into the tub.*
"It doesn't really matter. I've been released from my duty. Your superiors no longer wish me in their service." *He calmly started to wash his skin.*

*Malefica looked calmly at her son.*
"And you are okay with that? What do you wish to do with your life, Gawain?"

"I have no choice when it comes to being okay with it or not, Mother. It is as it is." *Gawain answered, not looking back to her.*
"I do not know what I will do now. It has only been a few days."

*Malefica looked over at him and caressed his hair.*
"Do you want me to speak with them on your behalf? Maybe there is a solution."
*She spoke calmly, but with compassion for her beloved child. No matter what the superiors were thinking of Gawain, he was her son, and she was proud of him.*

"I don't see any reason why." *Gawain continued calmly.*
"My instructions were quite clear. I was to be the last...but now, I can no longer fulfill my calling."

*Malefica nodded. She replied calmly.*
"Did they say why you could not fulfill your calling? I am married and have three children. And as you can see for your self, I am still a guardian. Marriage and children will not stop you from fulfilling your calling, which for a Guardian should be to protect the Grail, with all costs and no matter what it takes."

*Gawain shrugged rinsing his skin.*
"But you do not understand. I was not what you are. What Merlin is. When Father...made his sacrifices to insure my purity, it did just that. I was born a paragon, the ultimate Guardian, dedicated solely to that cause. I would have been immortal, bound until the End of Days to this place, to the Grail, a perfect oneness with my purpose."
*He dunked his head beneath the surface to rinse his hair, inhaling sharply as he resurfaced.*
"Or...if in time I had decided to dedicate my purpose and love to one woman, I could have married her and sacrificing my calling, given her the next Guardian." *He was quiet for a moment in private reflection.*

*Malefica quieted, remembering the night she and Icarus had made Gawain. She had given Icarus all the love she had to give, to make sure the baby would be a product of love. And, she could admit to it now, also out of love for Icarus. In spite of everything that had happened, she had never stopped loving him. She wondered if Icarus had something to do with the reason why Dracula couldn't touch her. Strangely enough, the thought made her smile.
Her thoughts returned to the present, to Gawain and his predicament. She was starting to think hard.*
"It may still be time, Gawain. Do you love Nightfall enough to marry her?"

*Gawain turned back to his mother, brow arched.*
"What? You don't understand. The deed is done. It doesn't matter anymore. I have made my peace with it."

*Malefica looked over at her son, very serious.*
"I have something to tell you, my son. You have heard that I am part goddess and part devil. Your grandfather is Zeus, the King of Olympus. And your grandmother is Queen Lilith of Hell. For many years now, I have fought against her, trying to stop her evil deeds. The fight have cost me your father and your sister. They are with her now.
The fates have said that I will win the next fight. I have spent the time preparing myself for what will come. And I am prepared. When the time is right, I will meet her, and fight her, no matter how hard the fight may be."
*She lowered her eyes sadly, her voice silent.*
"What the fates didn't say, is that this fight will be my last. Even if I win the fight against Lilith, my own wounds will be so severe that I may not be capable of fighting again. Ever. I will no longer be capable of protecting the Grail."

((How does she know where they are? I know that she assumed it a while back.))
*Gawain met her eyes in equal solemness.*
"I understand, Mother. And for that I am sorry. But what do you want from me? I cannot change what has happened."

((Lilith mentioned in her second fight that she would turn Eden against her. She can't do that unless Eden... and with her Icarus... are with her.))
*Malefica smiled sadly and embraced him.*
"I cannot change what has happened either, Gawain. If I could, much would have been different today. I have done my share of mistakes, and because of those, I lost both your father and your sister Eden. Please don't let me lose my only son as well."

((Ok.))
"Why would you lose me? I don't understand. What is it that you are asking of me?" *Gawain's brow lifted in question.*

*Malefica looked up at him with tearfilled eyes. Her voice was trembling in pain by the loss of Eden and Icarus. Now it was clearly showing in her eyes, how much she had suffered. The cost of being a Guardian had been almost more than she could bare.*
"The last time I fought Lilith, she said she would turn your sister against me. And I know she is powerful enough to keep her promise. Will you promise me that no matter what happens, you will always be my son?"
