"Finding my pleasure." *He answered detachedly.*
And getting my money's worth.
*He worked calmly, cutting line after line with precision.*

***Grantaire***
As his skin pinked and irritated, he arched forward, gritting his teeth at how sensitive it was getting and dropping his head down between his raised shoulders.
"I get that. What are you writing?"

*He answered, his tone cool and casual.*
"Why, my man...are you actually worried that I shall make you uglier? I would have thought such a thing an impossibility."
*Jean-François found a bit of comfort in his cruelty, but in truth, if this was the last he would see of Grantaire, he was determined that the man would never be rid of him, no matter how far he should flee.*

Grantaire felt himself flush and he pushed down a twinge of anger with grit teeth
"I am made uglier just by being in your company. What are you writing!"
He wasn't tied into place, so he jerked around to get his back away from the man and even shoved Morangias back, fairly certain he was being branded with the man's name.

*Jean-François was appalled by the blunt action, frowning sharply as he was forced back. But his instincts were keen and before a breath could be drawn, the stained knife was at Grantaire's throat, digging its tip into his skin.*
"Where do you think you are going, my friend?" *His voice was low and cold.* "I have never known you to be such a poor guest. I think your man should be disappointed in your manners."

"Manners? Who do you think I am?"
But he did still a bit, leaning back against the wood away from the knife as well as he could. He was pleasantly surprised to find himself rather less afraid of Morangias and only grumbled for him to get on with it.

"My entertainment, of course." *Jean-François replied coolly.* "Bought and paid for."
*Perhaps he would have to bind the man, if he was determined to be so difficult. Not his ideal though. Submission was always better when given. Still...when pressed, there were plenty of ways to skin that particular cat.*

"You haven't actually paid me yet, you know."
Grantaire pulled away from the cross again and lean down and fetch up his glass, taking a few sips of the precious water and then replaced himself once more.

*Without a word, he cleaned and sheathed the blade deftly. Slipping his hand beneath his coat, he withdrew a purse that clicked invitingly with coin.*
"True enough. So I suppose you must decide if you wish to stay."

The man blinked a bit and sighed, turning.
"How much for what you've already done?"
He suspected a paltry amount, Morangias had yet to really enjoy himself after all, and suspected he wouldn't really be allowed to leave anyway.

*Jean-François paused, as if giving it deep consideration. But the night had only started and he was hardly man of charity.*
"One hundred francs." *He answered smoothly, brow raised in expectation of complaint.*

A hundred was no small amount, more than he could make in a week doing the same. But it wasn't enough to get them out of the tenament house they were stuck in.
"I need a thousand."

*Jean-François gave a half-shrug.*
"Then I suppose you'll stay then, no?" *He paused only a moment before adding.*
"Turn around."

Grantaire wondered idly what Brishen would think of this--well, he didn't wonder, he knew what Brishen would think of it, but the man already considered him the worst sort of whore so how much worse could it get, really.
"Yes, monsieur." he muttered and did as he was told.

"Very good." *He continued lowly, unsheathing the blade again and stepping up to the man's back. The challenge was renewed, somehow all the more demanding now. As if he needed to bleed every franc out of the man, literally as well as figuratively. The cuts were slow, breaking occasionally, if only so the fresh start would be more painful.*
