"Watch, be disgusted, wait for this government to fall before it's even gotten to the worst of what it can do. It's France, mademoiselle; they always do."
((I assume he's not in real power yet, so no issue yet.))

"Let's hope they haven't learned from their predecessors, then."

"Yes, well, if the revolution's leader is anything like I was... "

"You managed to stay alive. Can't be that bad."

"I'm not even going into that story. Suffice it to say that the barricades fell, whether I died or not, because I was in charge."

*Turning back to the newspaper, she raised an eyebrow*
"How wonderful, already they've started to increase the military."

"The military? Dieu au ciel it's started." *He growled.* "The military is the first thing they take care of. No point taking over if you haven't got a strong force behind you, you'll be toppled in a week. Where does the money come from for the military? Taxes. And God forbid they tax those who can pay, oh no, funds stop supporting the destitute, putting countless masses on the streets, and those who keep their houses are taxed until they can't keep rent!"
*His face was beginning to flush with excitement, and there was a hint of the old Enjolras, the one who had inspired young men to build barricades and challenge the world they lived in. He banged his fist on the table for extra effect. He suddenly seemed five years younger.*

"But it's for our own protection", *she almost sneered*

"Protection?" *Enjolras did sneer, and managed to make it look attractive. Mostly because he's hawt and everything the boy does is attractive.* "Hah. I'd like to see one instance of the National Guard protecting the citizens of France."

"You should have seen it when they were patrolling the city gates. Nobody left and nobody came in without government dispensation. And the spies, good god, the spies! I saw ordinary, hard-working men and women carted off to the guillotine for even whispering a word of discontent among friends."
((There's a guillotine in 1832. I say so.))

((I think they had one there even in the 1900's.))
"I don't know, maybe we're overreacting."
*She thought for a moment*
"But I don't think we are."

((Looked it up. We're in the clear.))
"It'll be a few weeks before we know." *He muttered, before looking up suddenly.*
"Mam'selle, exuse my rudeness, comment t'appelles-tu?"

"Gustave-Vincent d'Enjolras, but please, call me Enjolras. I've never gone by the first two." *He extended a strong, but undoubtedly fine, hand.*
