"Don't you think it would make more sense for me to ask you that?" she retorted, slipping off her coat to her footman.

"Not really, seein' how I've been to most parts of the world, and the afterlife as well."

She chose this moment to officially dispense with the formalities and grabbed him by the hair.
"Don't be coy, John, unless you'd rather go back to that afterlife."

"Alright, alright. On the run, as I would have imagined you would gather from the fact that I am, firstly, a pirate and therefore usually at odds with civilized society, and secondly, that this is a veritable hunting ground for fugitives. Now, if you have no more questions, I'll be on my way."

She ran a finger along his jawline.
"And I'd like you to help me find him."

*He raised an eyebrow*
"And who might this dashing paragon of manhood be?"

A faint twitch in her cheek.
"The Marquis de Carabas, Jack."

She pushed him away, as though he'd been the one to start it, and wandered back to her carriage.
"Give him a candle," she shouted at the footman.
The footman approached Jack with a golden unlit candle. He passed it to the pirate.
"You'll know when to light it, Jack," she called from inside the carriage.
