*Brandi beamed at Fenris's smile, his gentle expression warming her heart without effort. She tickled his tummy softly, musing for a moment about if his canine behavior would translate into his human form. Startled only slightly by the sound, she turned to Cry-Baby as he came in. Stepping to the side, she let him survey the child in the crib.*
"He seems to be adjusting just fine." *She answered.* "How did...things go?" *Kiba could be...well...not necessarily a people person. But then again, Cry-Baby had been a bit feral in his own right as of late.*

"Fine, fine," Cry-Baby said. "Don't think he thinks I'm musclin' in on his territory or anything."
He looked down at the baby.
"Weird," he said. "I mean, on top of everythin' else... I thought we were just gettin' puppies."

"Me too." *Brandi nodded, her eyes drifting back to the boy-pup.*
"It's just..." *She hugged herself, rubbing her arms as if she was suddenly chill. Shrugging, she paused a moment before letting the thought escape her lips.*
"I suppose I just figured...with the others and all...I mean..." *She tried to clarify.* "They just seem to have...I don't know, a timeline or something. Like a purpose. That...they won't always...you know, be here."
*It seemed a weird thought, especially now, but nevertheless it was on her mind.*

Cry-Baby frowned in concern, taking an automatic step forward and reaching out to her, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"What do you mean?"

*There was a comfort in his gesture, his instinctive protection and Brandi nuzzled her head towards his hand for a moment before she thought better of it.*
"Just...well..." *She glanced back at him with something of a sad smile.*
"It wasn't like they were ever going to be ours. I mean, not really. It wasn't like we were ever going to get to keep them. Watch them grow up. You know?"

"Yeah." The breath that carried the word was a little shaky, and he watched her for a few moments, his expression clouded as her words sank in. Wasn't like he hadn't thought the same thing...
Quicker than thought, he moved suddenly to pick up one of the kids, staring down at the safe little face as his breathing returned to normal.
"Yeah, I... I kinda thought... Hell, never mind. This ain't the best time to talk about it."

*Brandi followed him, eyes curious. She was thankful that he'd seen reason and moved to make them...safer. Her hand found her way to his, taking what little comfort she could in the gesture.*
"Baby...you don't have to, but..." *She chewed her lip for a moment.*
"It's just...things here being what they are, not knowing when the next twist of Fate will fling itself by and all...well, if you've got something on your mind...I'm all ears."
*Her gaze was gentle and supportive.*

He took her hand gratefully, the calming effect of the baby not dulling his love for her. Her strength, her kindness.
"Not sure you'd even want this," he said, though he sounded less self-pitying and more matter-of-fact. "Or want it with me. But it seems to me, baby, we're pretty good at this whole thing. An' if I can get my head on straight--you know what I mean--I... well, I'd sure like to look down an' see a little piece of you in my arms."

*Brandi was quiet for a long while, trying to sort out her thoughts on that sort of thing. It was something she'd never wanted, though she'd warmed a bit to the idea after all of this. And...well, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. She squeezed his hand supportively.*
"You sure you'd be wanting more after..." *She glanced around at the room crowded with cribs.* "...all this? I mean...we aren't even, you know..." *She shrugged slightly.*
Married.
*Things had been fine the way they were, save for the huge complications and all, but still...it seemed like something that would have to be so far away.*

He shrugged carefully, smiling his easy smile.
"Always knew I'd want kids. Maybe not right away. An' if it ain't your thing, that's fine, too. Not that hard to please, am I. But if you ever wanted 'em, with me, I wouldn't say no."
He looked down.
"That's a lot to ask of any girl, after everything. I know that. Jus' a thought."

*Brandi pursed her lips, brow lowering for a moment. She hadn't meant to discourage him. She shook her head slightly.*
"It's a fine thought." *She answered, trying to sound more sure.* "I mean, I think that might be nice. After everything."
*She swallowed, managing a small smile.*
"When everything is better. When we..."
Can do this right. You know, as an act of love or...not violently or...
"When it's better?" *She looked up at him with hope in her eyes, nuzzling closer to him in a gesture of solidarity.*

"Well of course," he said, as if entirely convinced there was an end to all this. "I don't intend to bring a child into this world--on purpose, anyway--without makin' sure it's a world I want to bring her into."
He let go of her hand, only to draw her to him with his arm. "You okay?"

"Yeah." *Brandi answered easily, grateful for his surrounding touch.*
"It's nothing." *She pressed her face against his shoulder, savoring the smell of him.*
"Hope I ain't disturbing nothing..." *Came an all too familiar voice accompanied by the sweet odor of pipe smoke. Hedonism manifested by the door, two bundles in her arms.*
"Figured you might want these..."

Bored by the talking adults, Fenris had flopped down onto the mattress of the crib. He'd crawled around it a few times, investigating, and having gone over every inch he could had sat back down again. He'd grown a bit tired, the events of the day having sapped his strength, and he curled up much like the way a pup would and fell asleep .

Cry-Baby looked up, his expression grim. He didn't want to see her.
"That was quick," he ground out, his hold tightening on the kid.
