"Sues?"
*Strangely enough, he had the vague idea that he knew what she meant by that. But that was ridiculous*
"Don't worry...I know there are no happy endings. I've seen that for myself, up close."
*Trying to lighten the sudden dark mood, he gave her a half-smile*
"Lunch to take with me? Are you my mother now?"

"I'm in training," *she said with a grin, resting her hand on her stomach.* "Six more months to go."

*He broke into a more genuine smile*
"Congratulations, Emily! Have any names in mind yet?"

"None," *she said with an apologetic roll of her eyes.* "I won't know if it's a boy or girl for a while, yet."

"Well, it doesn't hurt to have an idea ahead of time." He said pleasantly.
He glanced at Paris again, frowning.*
"I have this feeling a lot of my answers lie there."

*Emily smiled slowly, then broke into song.*
"Welcome, my friend, to Paris!"
*She picked a rose from her garden and tucked it through Rudy's buttonhole.*
"Here, have a flower on me. Forget where you're from. You're in France! Children, come! I'll show you that French joie de vivre!"
*She swung out her arm in a grand gesture to indicate the cityscape spread out before them. ((The cottage is on a hill or something?))
"Paris holds the key to your heart. And all of Paris plays a part..."
*Still smiling, she spoke normally now.*
"Go, Rudolf. Come back here when you're ready. Are you certain I can't pack you a lunch?"

((Let me take this opportunity to say I LOVE YOU, and that I will in fact continue that song with a full chorus.))

*Rudolf blinked at the impromptu performance, wondering if this was the sort of thing he had to look forward to in Paris. If so, it was a rather amusing thing*
"I...thank you. I think I'll be fine, as far as food goes, for now. I really appreciate your helping me--you don't have to."

((Let me take this opportunity to say I LOVE YOU, and that I will in fact continue that song with a full chorus.)) ((Oh man, it's going to be like in Enchanted and everyone is continuing the same song and Rudolf's like "...I don't know this song. ...THEY ALL KNOW THIS SONG?")) "Of course I have to. We couldn't have left you on some streetcorner." Dressed like that. "There's some not-very-nice people in this city. And I wish I could say they were mostly NPCs, but they're not, sometimes."

"I appreciate your concern, but I'm sure I'll be all right."

*Emily nodded, but her gentle frown was uncertain.*
"Alright. Here--you call me if you need anything or you get in trouble." *She slipped a cellphone into his jacket pocket.* "Dial 555-SUES. It'll ring here in the cottage and I'll pick up."

*He started to ask about the cellphone, but his typist was lazy stopped when he realized that the explanation was there in his mind. This was going to take some getting used to.* "I'll be careful, Emily. I promise." *With a little wave, he set off from the cottage toward Paris *

*Emily waved him off at the gate and went back to the garden.*

***NEW DAY***
*Emily paused in the middle of turning into Martha Stewart measuring flour into a crockery bowl, her head tilting at an angle.
Something wasn't right.*
"DAMN it, Nadir!" *she spat, realizing suddenly what was happening to her character while she'd been trying to put some space between them. Not even bothering to take off her apron, she took off for Genghis' encampment at a dead run despite the baby bump and the flour coating her hands and streaking her face and hair. As she ran, she yanked the ring from the chain at her neck and slipped it onto her finger, disappearing from sight.*

***NEW DAY***
*Emily had been looking all over the garden, her terror rising as Ruby was nowhere to be found. Slamming the picket gate open, she looked despondantly at the black and massive forest.*
"RUBYYYYYYYYYYY!" *she cried, beginning to look everywhere.*
