"Plants are so useful, without needing or meaning to be. There is no reason basil, for instance, should reduce fever. No use to the plant, that is. But there you have it. Others treat infection, or ease stomach cramps, or improve the mood."
*He led her about the garden.*
"But I also like the plants that have no apparent use. Those that create beauty to attract bees and continue their species but which we also find beautiful."
*He touched a rose gently, brushing its white petals.*
"I could teach you which are edible, and which are used in medicine."

"I'd like that."
*Eden blushed as she said it. It was weird. She didn't want to feel like this, but...he was so different. Not like any boy she'd ever met. He was soft but still strong. A creature of extraordinary grace. And it made her feel funny on the inside. She looked up at him shyly.*
"So where do we start?"

*Figwit smiled down at her openly. He liked small human children, he decided. Full of curiosity, and smarter than he'd expected.*
"Well, the garden is rather obvious. If they have a vegetable garden here. More useful is knowing that rose hips, for example, can be used to make tea or jam. But there aren't any now--it's too early. They are the fruit that comes after the flower has finished blooming. Is there any sort of wilderness nearby? The woods are full of things to know."

*Eden's tiny brow furrowed, trying to decide what was close enough to not be tedious, but still was big enough to be interesting and diverse.*
"There's a glen down the path out back. Half an hour, at the most."
*She smiled brightly, hope in her voice. She was near desperate for him to approve of her, but she couldn't explain why.*

*Figwit laughed. Half an hour was nothing.*
"I am not in a hurry. If you are not."
*He smiled down at her. After the darker world he grew up in, the sunlight playing in her golden hair was almost entrancing.*

((Damn right it is.))
"No hurry." *She smiled, almost shyly.*
*Squeezing his hand, she led him down the path to forest.*
((If you can find us a thread, I'll meet you there.))
