*After navigating through the twists and turns of the castle halls, Krolock and Belle finally arrived at the grand library. It was as it had been earlier, filled wall-to-wall with books.*

*Belle had been giving him the silent treatment for the journey, but thanked him quietly as she walked past him.*

"If there is anything you need, simply call for Igor or one of the other servants."
*He paused before he left the room quietly*

*She nodded and wandered into the library, pretending to look at the books, but all the time keeping her ears alert to any movement- it wouldn't do to have the Graf appear just as she was trying to run away. She eventually found a book and sat down to 'read' until she was sure he was gone.
It had been quite a while; long enough, she judged, to make her escape. As silently as possible, she crept to the door and out into the hall. The castle twisted and turned, but she was mostly sure of her way, and eventually came to the door.*

*Some inner sense of the castle, perhaps because of how attuned to it he was, set off warning bells in the back of his mind. Frowning, he started moving through the halls until he realized what the source of it was. He walked faster, looking as though he were gliding until he'd reached the library.
Empty.*
"CURSES!"

*By now she'd made it through the castle gates- she'd had to wriggle through the bars, but she was finally out! And, she realized, still clutching the book she'd been reading in the library. Oh well. She tucked it snugly under the gate, in hopes that it would be found and returned. She smiled, feeling secure with the warm late afternoon sun on her face.
A rough sounding voice quickly interrupted her feeling of well-being.*
"Evenin' little missy. Where're you headed in such a hurry?"
*She stopped in her tracks and put on an annoyed frown. She preferred the vampire, she decided. He, unlike this group of ruffians, was polite. And bathed.*
"Nowhere in particular- and I'm not carrying any valuables."

*The roughs grabbed at Belle, moving in menacingly.*
"Oh, we ain't interested in valuables."
*Elsewhere, in the castle, Krolock was hurrying toward the foyer. Belle was outside, he knew, but perhaps he could get her to come in without him having to actually get anywhere near sunlight*

"Oh no," *she snapped, struggling against them, aiming and landing a few punches and kicks. For all her fighting, she was still outnumbered, and one finally managed to pin her arms.*
"You let go of me," *she snapped.*
"Would you look at that, she's feisty," *one sneered, his face too close to hers, and his foul breath making her lip curl.*

*He saw, through the window, what was happening.
Belle, in danger.
He didn't even think about it, not at all. He had only one reaction to the scene before him. With a roar, the vampire lord burst through the foyer doors, making a beeline for the men that had their hands on Belle.
They didn't stand a chance, really. They were getting their asses handed to them, Krolock not even feeling--or noticing--that the sun was burning him, tendrils of smoke rising from his skin, hair, clothes...he was starting to look horrifying*

"What are you doing?"
*The ruffians taken care of, Belle shoved him with a strength that one wouldn't guess that she had looking at her, into the lengthening shadow of the wall.
In the safety of the shadows, she bit her lip, cringing at the damage done to him. She couldn't help but seem like she was hovering a bit.*

*He struggled to stand up, but only succeeded in sitting up by the wall, the shadow a cool welcome on his skin*
"Had...to save you..."
*He wheezed brokenly. It was the worst pain he'd ever felt in his life.
As though someone had set him on fire*

*Her expression softened.*
"Thank you," *she said quietly, with a hint of a smile. She looked to the sky from the shade of the wall.*
"It should be dark soon."

*He nodded, not really able to do much else*
"You're welcome."
*He glanced up at the sky, heaving a sigh of relief. Though he had extroadrinary healing ability, vampires recovered more slowly from fire or sun injury than any other.
It was going to be a looooong recovery*

*She sat carefully next to him, her back against the wall. It would be easy for her to leave now, but she couldn't just leave him like this, not after what he'd done for her.*
"That wasn't very smart," *she said, gently reprimanding,* "I would have been alright- and, well-"
*She sighed.*
"We'll have to do something about that."

*He'd closed his eyes, though he gave her a lopsided smile at her comment*
"I am sure...I'm in capable hands..."
