*Philippe smiled in memory. The bottle must have been there for several years, he had not touched the stuff since Rebecca had left the first time.*
"I would imagine my reaction would be much the same, it is far stronger than I would be used to."
*He shrugged.*
"I no longer drink."

*She glanced from the bottle to him, giving him a smile*
"I'm glad to hear that. You...you were a bit too fond of it."

"I was addicted."
*He replied shortly. It was the truth, there was no point disguising it.*
"I will not go back there, despite the circumstances."
*It was then that he knew he would not. He would see his son grow into a man, and not make the mistake he had. Then he would die. That would be all. Philippe smiled bitterly. Oddly, it did not seem so terrible to him. It was lonely, yes and not what he had wished but- it would not destroy him like he thought it would.*
"I will help you all I can. Your husband can not more harm me more than I can myself."

"I'm happy at how far you've come. I always knew you'd break out of where you'd gotten to."
*Her smile faltered a bit at the mention of Lawrence*
"Don't...don't get into trouble on my account. I know coming here dragged you into it, but maybe you don't have to suffer through..."
*What was she saying? She was here for one reason, and one reason only--and he was standing right before her.*

*Philippe face tightened. He knew how he would deal with the man. But she did not need to know that, ever. He had the means to cope with the situation without ever leaving the Estate.*
"Do not worry."
*He looked down at her.*
"But, I do not know..."
*He rubbed his forehead. She was not her but... there was something so comforting in her presense.*
"I do not know what to do about...us."

*She wondered, though, if he'd let it go, but she didn't argue. What he said after demanded far more attention.*
"I...don't know, either. I won't lie and say that--that I haven't thought of us being together again. But, that's not possible anymore. There's too much..."
Isn't there?
*But she dare not say that out loud*

"We have a son."
*And he had a wife, who was his mother. But she was, it gave him a headache to think about. *
"But, I cannot help but hope that Rebecca will come back."
*In his heart though, he knew she would not.*
"But, you should stay."

*The mention of Rebecca hurt, but she pushed that aside. She couldn't expect him to forget a woman that had been such a huge part of his life. But, the other thing he said made her heart leap*
"I would love to stay."

*Philippe nodded abruptly.*
"Good, you can stay in this room."
*He studied her closely.*
"Should I send for the doctor again?"

*She took mental stock of her aches and pains, thinking it over*
"Maybe...he should stay nearby. Some of this is...still bad..."

"I will fetch him."
*He turned to go but stopped.*
"This will mend Angel."
*As he opened the door he realised he was not sure if he had meant her body, or his heart.*

"Thank you." *Her voice was still hoarse, though it was relief that she was able to talk at all, considering how hard her neck had been squeezed. There was a small smile on her lips at the nickname. It had been a long time since he'd called her that.* I hope it mends, Philippe. With all my heart.
