*Aziraphale arrived back at the bookshop after his run-in with Crowley, and walked numbly to the back room, where he tried very hard to become absorbed in one of the many ancient dusty books that he loved.
He couldn't, of course, but that wouldn't stop him from pretending that he wasn't thinking about Crowley.*

At around the same time, Herbert was waking up. He was fully startled into alertness by the sound of the door to the back room slamming downstairs.
He sat up.
"Aziraphale?" he called.

*Aziraphale pretended not to hear him.*

He went downstairs and looked around. When he saw that the door to the back room was shut, Herbert moved toward it and tried to open it.
It was locked.
Aziraphale?" he said again.

"I'm a tiny bit busy at the moment," *he said quickly.*

"I only wanted to come in and say hello..."

*He swallowed, not trusting himself to speak.*

"Please don't call me that," *he said, sounding very upset. Crowley called him- or used to call him that all the time...*

Without even really trying to, Herbert broke the lock, and he made a small noise and pulled away apologetically as the door swung open.

*Aziraphale turned his head quickly.*
"Did you have to do that? You've broken the door!" *he snapped.*

Herbert cringed slightly for a split second, looking almost as though he were going to cry, then quickly recovered himself, smoothed back his hair with one hand and said, rather haughtily, "I don't always know my own strength, thank you."

*He looked back down at the book that he hadn't actually been reading.*
"Be more careful next time," *he said.*
