*Marius had drifted off to sleep in the library, a book still held in one hand. He was having a rather pleasant nap that was interrupted by Colette rushing into the room. He jerked awake when she shook his arm*
"What in the...Colette...?"
*She placed a letter in his hand, marked "urgent", addressed to him. The delicate, flowing handwriting on the front he recognized as his mother's. With a feeling of dread, Marius opened the letter. He paled as he read it, leaping to his feet and rushing out of the library and to the master bedroom.*

*Aimee ran into him in the hallway, and immediately recognized the look on his face.*
"Marius! Marius, what's wrong?" *She asked, eyes searching his.*

*It took a moment for him to answer as he caught his breath*
"My father...he's ill...it's why he and mother haven't returned home yet. They're stopped in Brazil because he's too sick to travel."
*He took a deep breath, trying to calm down, but it wasn't really working*
"They say he does not have long to live."

*She didn't know what to say. She didn't... she knew what it was like to lose a parent, but she had gotten her mother back. Instead of responding, she merely hugged him as tightly as she could, whispering,*
"I'm so sorry."

*Marius held her onto her tight, taking deep breaths in an effort to stay calm*
"I have to go and see him. It is likely the last chance I'll have to see him alive." He said softly.

"Of course you have t..." *She stopped suddenly, pulling back to look him in the eye.* "Brazil?" *She asked, a tremor in her voice.*

*He nodded*
"They were on their way to North America when the illness struck him."
*At the look on her face, he sighed*
"It'll be fine."

*There was still an incredibly worried look on her face.*
"Marius, the chances of getting to Brazil, getting inland to your father, and getting back... "*She trailed off, fretting.*

"Aimee, it will be fine. My parents have made that trip before and they've come home in fine shape. I'll return to you, and so will Johanna and Alain's grandmother."

"I..." *She said, searching his face. She suddenly threw her arms around him.*
"Marius, I can't lose you." *She mumbled into his chest.*

*He patted her back reassuringly*
"You won't lose me, Aimee. Nothing could keep me from coming back here."

*She rested her cheek against his chest, clinging to him.*
"How long?" *She asked softly.*

*He gave her a gentle squeeze*
"((Travel time that's probably hella-long goes here))"

*She bit her lip and visibly tensed when he said it.*
"Th... that long?" *She asked hoarsely.*

*He grimly nodded. The prospect of being away from Aimee and his children for so long was not something he looked forward to. But he couldn't ignore his father's plight.*
"I'll come back as soon as I possibly can."
