*Rebecca went upstairs to change, going into her dressing-room and carefully taking the jewelled pins from her hair.*

*Philippe waited until she was safely in her room before he scribbled a note to Mona, detailing his intention to visit tomorrow. He had the note sent via a trusted servant before climbing the stairs himself. He entered the Master bedroom and removed his cravat, rubbing his neck as the uncomfortable garment was removed.*

*Becca sat at her dressing-table and took off the heeled satin slippers she'd worn before she rolled her silk stockings down to pull them off, wiggling her bare toes with delight.*

*Philippe, removed his jacket and waistcoat and wandered over to the door of her dressing chamber. He leaned against the door frame and glanced in.*
"The corset, when you are ready."

*She laughed, standing up and folding her stockings.*
"You shall not have it," *she said tartly.*

"Oh, but I shall. It is only a matter of time, I am a patient man."
*He grinned boyishly at her.*

"Indeed you must be quite patient and forbearing, not to throttle poor Charles earlier this evening as we danced." *She smiled at him, cocking her head to one side.* "I know that look you were wearing. I take it you like my dress?" *She twirled, laughing.*

*Philippe moved forward and stopped her twirling, wrapping his arms around her waist. He had thought himself so subtle, disguising his emotions but it seemed it could not do so from her.*
"I do like it, though I wish that others did not."
*He grasped a handful of her skirt feeling the material between his fingers as he buried his face in her hair*
"Though, from what you have told me, the boy can be permitted to live."

"Bless you for that--I'm not certain I could love a murderer."
*She fingered the buttons on his shirt with a smile.*
"Though you of all men might tempt me into certainty on that point."

"Because you could or could not?"
*Philippe murmured.*

"You know I could," *she whispered faintly, resting her forehead against his shoulder.*

*Philippe smiled as he held her.*
"And because of that I know I will never have to."
*He whispered, his fingers working at the ties of her dress.*

"Patience, now," *she whispered, stepping away to first remove her ruby earrings and necklace, laying them safely away.* "Precious things may be scattered and lost if we are careless," *she said, carefully unhooking the fastenings of her dress and stepping out of it, draping the red silk ballgown over a chair.*

*Philippe sighed. He did not care how many items of clothing were ripped in the process. The household budget had to be for something after all.* "Very well, I shall be so." *He turned and walked into the other room.*

*Rebecca bit back a laugh as he left the room. As far as she knew, it might do him a bit of good to cool his heels a bit. She took off her corset and put it away safely out of Philippe's reach, followed by her undergarments. She glanced at the nightgown laid out for her, then turned and followed where Philippe had gone, wearing only her wedding ring and a smile. She crossed her arms and leaned against the doorframe.*
"Now I think this is a fairer beginning, and less likely to incur some kind of damage to my pretty things."
