*It was noon, Monday, and Ben had brought all the necessary tools for making a barber's chair and divesting Hallie of clothing the walls of their wallpaper. He waited happily outside in the cold winter sunshine.*

Hallie walked up to Ben in very exciting lingerie some crappy, paint-covered sweat pants and an old t-shirt, ready to help out.
"Morning."

*He laughed at her attire, though he was pretty much just in a loose shirt and old breeches. He led her up the stairs.*
"I was hoping today we'd strip you the wallpaper and I'd build the chair."

"Sweet. I'd be happy to have mad hot sex with you help you with the building. Or do the wallpaper myself while you do the chair. Whichever you prefer."

*He smiled as he opened the door. Inside, the stove had been going for a while and it was nice and warm.*
"I also brought stuff to paint a sign, but I failed art in school... are you any good?"

"Well, I can make the sign whatever color you like, but as for the letters... We'll have to figure something out," she said, smiling at him.

*He smiled.*
"Good, you can paint the sign while I make the chair and then we can tackle each other on the bed the wallpaper. I think there are the right stencils... there's blue and red and black paint in there--whatever you think looks best."
*He sat down in front of the chair and began taking it apart to work on it.*

Hallie smiled and got to work on the white base for the sign. When she had finished with that, she stood back to look at it and turned to Ben.
"Hey, how about a white sign? I could just add a second layer of base..."

*He smiled as he attached a gear.*
"That's fine." *He said happily, whistling a little as he turned back to making a crank for his chair.*

Hallie watched him working for a moment and shuddered inwardly, praying that Ben would never end up like his neighbor. Then she returned her attention to the sign and dipped the roller into the paint tray.

*Some time later, he finished the chair and tested it, cranking it up and down and making sure that it leaned satisfactorily. He anchored it in the center of the room and turned to Hallie.*
"Is the sign finished?" *He asked pleasantly. His good mood was a bit infectious.*

"Almost," she responded, finishing the letter P in "Shop." The red paint filled in the stencil and she removed it. "Voila! Congratulations, Mr. Barker, you are officially a barber!"

*He laughed.*
"It's not official until we put it up!"

She stuck out her tongue. "The sign exists, therefore it's official."

*He rolled his eyes, grinning.*
"Come on, you can hold it in place while I nail it up."
