She'd all but forgotten the pain upon entering this new world. It certainly couldn't have been the one she'd left... she could hear every tiny sound, smell the perfume from three rooms over; nothing looked the same as before. She marveled at her own hand, now deathly pale (not that she'd been far from it before).
She startled at the sound of his voice, heard through newly-sensitive ears.
"I..."
But there was a joy, under the shock. This world--not the one she'd left, but this new and glittering one--was a world to live for. There weren't truly words. Slowly she began to process what she'd done.

A small, somewhat self-satisfied smile appeared at her expression.
"Oh, it only gets even better." He said, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear.

There wasn't any way for her to express her gratitude. She looked at him, eyes wide.
"God, why is anyone human?"

He laughed.
"That's a good question. But you know something? There are people that would turn this down. I can't even imagine why."

She looked down at herself--underweight from months of spending money on opium rather than food.
"I suppose I'll be like this forever?"
She rather liked the prospect of looking like a wraith of death, all bones with a curtain of dark hair and bright eyes. There was a certain romanticism.

Her deathly-looking state hadn't even occurred to him.
"I don't think so. I was sick and dying, and it made me healthy again."
He lightly traced a finger down her arm.
"It may make you robust once more."

She felt an incredible urge which she couldn't identify. "I want..." But she didn't know.

He gave her a knowing smile.
"I know. Let's go take care of that, hmm?"
He gestured toward the door.

She rose, marveling at the way her muscles moved in coordination. She turned to him.
"I..."
But she wasn't sure what she was trying to say. A moment of uncertainty, and she got a glint of excitement in her eyes. "Yes. Let's."
((ohhh she's gonna make a good vampire))

He held his hand out to her.
"I've got just the place in mind..."

She took it firmly, hesitation gone. She would enjoy this.

**SOME NIGHT OR SOMETHING**
In the months since she'd felt confident leaving her sire's side, Amélie had been quietly floating around the countryside, taking small newborn pleasure in scaring the living daylights out of peasants. She'd have to make her way to eastern Europe sometime; they were especially superstitious there, right?
She'd checked on her foster family and made sure they were alright and made her peace with the fact that this would be the last time she'd see them. She added a few hundred francs to the tin behind the loose brick in the dead of night and headed back to Paris to decide what to do next.
So one night while Daniel was out, she'd convinced the innkeeper to let her into his room with her dazed companion. One of the more surprising things about leaving Daniel had been realizing she had a keen talent for convincing people to do or think things. It was subtle as yet, but she could feel it growing stronger. It was how she'd lured her friend here in the first place.
Now that they were safely in the room--best not to raise suspicions--she hit him over the head with unnatural strength and arranged him attractively on the bed, then sat down to wait.
