"I left! Right when you needed me most--"
He was starting to get a little bit more than agitated. This one fact had been something that had bothered him all these years...something he'd wanted so much to atone for.

"The others took you away," he said wearily. He didn't have the energy at the moment to be arguing about this...and all he wanted right now was just to fall asleep, with newly-returned Alex beside him.
"I can hardly expect you to fight the likes of Marius and Pandora."

"Still...I should have tried harder to come back and get you..." He murmured. He had a feeling he was floundering in this conversation, and on top of that he could sense Daniel's weariness.

"And then what? Have a showdown with Armand?" There was faint amusement in his voice. Alex would have been reduced to so much ash if he'd attempted that.

If Alex had still been human, he would've colored in embarrassment.
"Er...well..."
He coughed.
"All right, point taken. I just...I felt bad about that."

"Don't."
As he had a bit earlier, he touched Alex's cheek, the motion this time almost reverent.
"I never thought I'd see you again."

"I thought the same thing."
He trailed fingers through Daniel's hair. He'd always loved that vivid chestnut color.

It was likely a bad idea, at this juncture of his life, to try and do something like rekindle old fires...but as mentally wrecked as Daniel was, he was still Daniel, and being reasonable was not something that he was very good at. Without another thought, he pulled Alex into a fiery kiss.

For a moment, his only response was to kiss Daniel back, wanting nothing more than to get lost in the familiarity of the other's body. But, of course, some impulse that he would have liked to kill made him break the kiss.
"Daniel--"

He fought back a rise of irritation.
"What?" He said, managing to sound calm.

"Maybe we should slow it down a bit...we only just found each other again." He said timidly.
Although Daniel had masked it rather well, Alex could sense the irritation and wanted to avoid making it worse.

He was very tempted to press the issue, but in the end he didn't. He knew, without having to really think on it much, that any of his usual tactics would not work on Alex, and would quite likely chase off and alienate him.
"All right. Slowly." To demonstrate his sincerity, he chastely kissed Alex's cheek.

He smiled, glomping Daniel with a bear hug, entirely unaware of what was lurking in the mind of his beloved.
"Thank you. We have plenty of time to catch up...no need to rush."

"Yes. You're right."
He had no idea how exactly he was going to work through this, considering that an innocent embrace meant close, highly tempting contact with someone that Daniel had always found irresistable.
"So...where are you staying in Paris?"

"Nowhere, at the moment."
He poked Daniel's shoulder.
"I haven't found something good enough yet."
