((WARNING: )) *Aziraphale was walking back to the bookshop, several new additions to his collection in his arms. He was feeling rather proud of himself for tracking them down. Suddenly, a rather pathetic mewling sound from down a spooky looking alley distracted him from his thoughts. He decided to investigate. The sound seemed to be coming from a closed box dumped in the alley. He opened it carefully and the sight that his eyes was enough to make anyone melt- not to mention an angel.* "Oh, you poor little dears!" * Kittens. There had to be at least fifteen in the box, with no mother or owner anywhere to be found. There was never any question of what to do. Tucking his books under his arm, he hoisted up the box and carried it back to the shop.*

****SOME TIME LATER**** Herbert was awakened shortle after sunset by something wet tapping itself against his cheek. Another something was tugging lightly at his hair. "Zira, please," he said sleepily, "I'm still tired..." The wet and tugging continued. Herbert drowsily opened his eyes. A pair of big green eyes was looking right at him. "Mew," said the owner of the eyes."KITTEN!" said Herbert.

*Sitting across the room, with no less than four kittens crawling all over him, Aziraphale grinned at Herbert. There were two in his lap, one had managed to climb up to his shoulder, and he had one in his hands.* "I hope you don't mind them, but I couldn't just leave them..."

"Kittens?" Herbert repeated. He looked around him. "Holy Christwagons, they're everywhere."

"Kittens, Herbert! Kittens!" *He stroked one of several who were using him as a chair, and it attacked his hand, and began nibbling on his fingers.* "I found them abandoned in a box near the shop. I couldn't just leave them!"

"How many are there?" he asked slowly, picking up a small gingery specimen that had been busy trying to eat his toes.

"Um... Fifteen or sixteen, I think." *He scanned the room, but there were so many they were moving around like crazy.* "I tried to count them in the box, but they're quite energetic."

"I can see that," said Herbert, as one somehow dropped from the ceiling lamp, landed with a bounce on the bed, shook its head to fluff itself up again, and jumped off the bed to go join its siblings playing with the wastebasket.

*A dark brown tabby and a little black tuxedo cat managed to push it over, sending crumpled papers tumbling across the floor. This was very exciting, apparently, as they began pouncing on them and batting them around.* "Aren't they precious?"

"They are rather darling..."
Herbert cleared his head.
"You can't let them into the shop. Cats make stains."

"Oh, no, of course not." *He may be enthralled with the miniature fuzzy creatures, but he certainly wasn't going to let them ruin his books.* "What are we going to do with them all?" *He frowned slightly. He got the distinct feeling that Herbert didn't like them.*

Herbert noticed the frown and climbed out of bed. He scooped up the kittens sitting on Aziraphale and held them to his own chest, smiling, and sat on Aziraphale's lap himself.
"I don't know. I imagine they'll need homes."

*He nodded and kissed Herbert on the cheek.*
"Most of them, yes."
*He looked a bit distressed. Where on earth would they find homes for so many?*

"Oh, now you're pouting..."
Herbert kissed him, and one of the cats mewed in what sounded like approval.
As he pulled back, Herbert picked up the enthusiastic kitten and smiled in mock disapproval.
"I don't believe that's your concern, fuzzball," he teased, "but thank you for your blessing."

*Aziraphale grinned and laughed.*
"Surely we don't have to part with all of them..."
