*Haldir looked worried as well.*
"I am well aware of the lay of the land. And those two on the throne are of no help. He is getting even more mad each day, and his wife won't see how bad it is for him. She tries to force your mother not to try to overthrow her husband. Leetah will never betray you, or go against the last wish of Queen Tearbird. This may result in a civil war between those who are still loyal to Steerpike and those who are loyal to us. But now we have the majority of the population on our side. Our shamans enjoy great respect, and they are both on your side."
*He leaned in towards Figwit.*
"I have spoken to my men. They are all ready when you need them. But I suggest we lay some plans first."

*Figwit nodded.*
"I had hoped that bloodshed would not be necessary. I would prefer to solve things in a more diplomatic manner. Enough lives have been lost already; it is this casual attitude towards taking them which, I fear, led Lorien into this morass."

*Haldir nodded.*
"I agree with you. The people of Lorien has suffered enough. Eleanor assured me she only had Lorien's best in mind. She did not say a word about her husband. Which is why I want him off the throne. Nothing have been done by the throne to prevent the starvation at the border in the south, and now there is a plague in the as well. Your mother Leetah is there now, to try to stop the plague, and perhaps do something about the starvation."

*So far as he knew, Lorien had never known starvation or disease. Figwit's eyes narrowed in anger.*
"Why has no one stood against him?" *he railed, his normally calm demeanor cracking around the edges.*

*Haldir looked sadly at his nephew.*
"You don't know the farmers in Lorien, Figwit. First Orduag scared them to death, and now they don't dare to stand up to anyone. They didn't even dare to tell us there was a starvation or disease here. Your mother detected it because she gets visions about things that happens far away. And she immediately left the court to help the poor farmers. As for us, we will do what we can to help you to claim your right to the crown."

"The ruler of Lorien should be a steward, not a tyrant," *he spat.* "A caretaker. I wish to lead my people, not command them. I have your support, then?"

*Haldir smiled warmly and placed his hand on his nephew's shoulder.*
"You know you have. Always. I will be ready whenever you want me to. And so will the rest of my men."
*His eyes were thoughtful.*
"Steerpike is evil at heart, and greedy for power. I don't expect he will let go of the throne willingly. But we will do whatever you want us to do to free our beloved country."

*Nessa had listened to the conversation, shyly, but eager to learn.*
"I also want to help out. If I can. But you probably won't need the help of a little chamber maid."
*She sighed heavily, certain that she would be left out of this.*

*Figwit smiled at Nessa.*
"I don't believe there's any such thing as 'just' a chamber maid," *he said.* "I will need everyone. This concerns the whole of Lorien."
*His dark eyes flickered back to Haldir.*
"Perhaps the queen is a good place to start. Is she approachable?"

*Haldir had smiled at Nessa too, but now he was serious again.*
"I am afraid Eleanore will not do anything without permission from her husband. I hear he has accused her of trying to reign the kingdom from under him. This, I believe, will make her stay away from politics. But she should be approachable, I believe."

"I should still like to meet her myself," *Figwit said.* "To ascertain the situation. It's a lot to take in at once, you understand; I need to know everything I can."

*Haldir smiled and looked at his nephew.*
"As you could see for yourself, I had to meet Eleanore secretly. Her husband is suspicious by nature and could get jealous. If you go to see her, don't go there alone. Allow one of the girls to go with you. Nessa or Wild. Not Leetah, that would be too risky, for both of you. Nessa has worked in the castle all her life. She should be capable of getting an appointment with the queen easily enough."

*Figwit nodded, and turned to Nessa.*
"Is it so, Nessa? Could you get me in to see the queen?"

*Nessa blushed and looked up at him. She became shy every time anyone noticed her.*
"The queen has always been very kind to me. I can speak to her, and perhaps arrange a meeting. Do you want me to stay with you during the meeting, or perhaps Wild? I have also have an invitation to the banquet. You could escort me there, if you like."

"I believe I should speak to the queen alone," *he said gently.* "It is best not to attract too much attention to my associations. Perhaps, then, I will receive an invitation to the banquet. But I would appreciate an introduction, at least."
