*Sarah had been so ready to retort that she was confused by his last comment for a moment. Then she blushed, the wind pulled from her sails.*
"Well...there's nothing wrong with helping people that need it..." *She started.* "Especially those too weak to help themselves."

Norman snorted.
"The weak should be put out of their misery," he said. "Come on, pretty girl. We could have fun together. Much more fun than watching me on this bed. You wouldn't even have to untie me, if you didn't want to."
He smiled again, lustful and insincere. The truth was, she hadn't given him enough to restore him to any real strength--this part of his brain had taken control, but his body raged impotently against he knots.

*Sarah started forward without thinking. It was just so nice to be called pretty, to be offered...she shook her head to clear her thoughts. Norman had warned her it would be like this. That the other him was evil.*
"I think maybe we should both try to get some sleep. The sun will come soon."

Norman's face darkened at her lack of response.
"But I'm hungry," he said indignantly. "You can't leave me here! Do you plan to starve me out of him? He's useless without me, a mere shell. I'm what he was meant to be, what he always was! And I will always be here."

*Sarah rolled her eyes.*
"I'm certain. I'm sorry you're hungry, but we'll both just have to wait until tomorrow to eat. And besides..."
*She pulled a quilt from the chair in the corner and sat down, covering herself.*
"...I'm not leaving you anywhere."

Norman growled, an almost feral sound.
"What's he giving you?" he demanded. "What's in this for you?"

*Sarah frowned. It was looking like he was aiming to make sure she didn't get any sleep either.*
"Maybe I just wanted to do something nice for him. Is that so hard to believe?"

"Frankly, yes," Norman spat, growing tired with the coming dawn. "Then again, girls are always wanting to be 'nice' to poor Norman. So helpless! So sweet! It's a crock--I'm him, and he's me, and the only thing he's ever needed is a good f--"
His voice choked off, and his eyes bugled slightly in response to some inner struggle. Norman smiled unsteadily.
"He must like you. He's usually too busy crying in a corner to pay any attention."
His skin was pale and had an unhealthy sheen to it. He was tiring himself, straining against the ropes.

*There was a brief confusion, then a flicker of hope, then Sarah lifted her chin.*
"And maybe if you weren't so mean to him, you wouldn't be tied to a bed right now. I happen to find him perfectly charming." *She half curled up in the chair, pulling the quilt about her.*

"Mean to him? I protect him," Norman said. "From do-gooders like you." He was going to add that it was all a clumsy metaphor anyway, that they were the same person just bits he hated, when the unseen sun became too powerful and he nodded off. Young vampire that he was.

When Norman awoke, nearly with the sun's dipping below the horizon, it was with a ravenous hunger and the knowledge that he'd said something dreadful to Sarah. He was almost afraid to look at her.

*Sarah awoke with a lazy yawn. The chair hadn't been as comfortable as the bed would have been, but it was still better than a closet. She stood, smoothing her skirts.*
"And how are we doing this evening?" *She queried, trying to examine him without getting too close. Just in case.*

"Should've given you the bed," he mumbled. "Tied me up in the chair."

*Sarah shook her head, not absolutely sure which one was speaking at the moment. But she had a guess.*
"Don't you worry about it. I managed all right, didn't I?"
*She smiled back at him.*
"You all right?"
