"Doesn't anyone know about Daemons, here?" *Lyra asked no one in particular.*
"No," *Pan said. Lyra frowned.*
"Where I come from, everyone's got 'em. 'Less there's somethin' real wrong with you. He's my..." *She couldn't exactly explain how he was her. She shrugged.*
"So whatcha doin' at Oxford?"

"I wouldn't mind having a Daemon around." She said thoughtfully.
"Well, I'm here mostly to study literature and drama stuff, since I already know most of everything else. Which is kind of boring, but whatever. I don't think I'm missing out on big, stuffy classrooms."

*Lyra's eyes widened.*
"So at this Oxford, the girls can go to school?"

"Well..." She glanced around, though there was nobody nearby.
She lowered her voice.
"There are girls, but they gotta pretend to be boys. I get away with it because of the stuff I can do."
*She sighed. Why'd she say that? She'd never be able to explain her weird powers properly*

*Lyra's eyes widened.*
"What sort of stuff?" *she asked, her voice hushed in sympathetic secrecy.*

*For a moment, she almost refused to answer, but she figured that the girl would probably know something of weird, if she had something like Pan hanging around her*
"I'm pretty good with disguises, but my best thing is to teleport. If I want to go somewhere, anywhere, I just concentrate on going there and--" she snapped her fingers "--I'm there."
*She still kept her voice low, as the only person at the university that wouldnt' find this conversation odd would be Alexei.*

*Pan fluttered up into a sparrow in excitement.*
"Really? You're not funnin'?" *She could trick people real good--that was her skill--and it made her suspicious of others. Still... she very much wanted it to be true. Though she hadn't heard of anything like this in overheard conversations about experimental theology.*

"I promise, 100% true."
*She glanced around the courtyard*
"I'd demonstrate, but I don't want to get caught. My dad doesn't like me 'using it frivolously'."

*Lyra frowned.*
"I don't believe you," *she announced, not because she necessarily didn't but because it seemed stupid to say you could do something and not be able to show it and she wanted to call Treszka's bluff.*

"Oh yeah? Well, I could send us both somewhere else if we find a place to disappear from that nobody will see us."
*Treszka didn't mind being challenged. You never knew what could come of it*

"There's an alley over there you can't see from any windows," *Lyra said, hoping she was right. The buildings did all look the same as her Oxford.* "I dare you."

*Treszka grinned as she marked her place in the book and closed it, hopping to her feet*
"All right, then! Away we'll go."
*Making sure there was nobody watching, she led the way to the alley*

*Her eyes alternating between wonderingly wide and suspiciously narrow, Lyra and Pan followed. She didn't dare to hope the lady could do what she said. It was just too interesting.*

*Once they were in the alley, and out of sight, Treszka held her hand out to Lyra*
"You gotta hold my hand so I don't leave you behind by accident...and, anywhere you wanna go in particular?"

*Lyra took her hand and Pan wrapped around her other arm, ermine-shaped again.*
"I never been nowhere," *she said, shaking her head.*
