*She would have protested but she nodded weakly instead and sat on the bed, knowing he was right. She clutched at her stomach, tears squeezing out of the sides of her clenched eyes as she tried not to cry out.*

*Making sure she was settled on the bed, Marius bolted to where he knew the doctor was staying in the house. It took several confused minutes of babbling before Marius could get across what it was that was the matter, and soon the both of them were flying down the halls and back to the bedroom.
Marius hurtled into the room, the doctor moving past him and over to Aimee*

*Aimee was sitting there, oddly quiet, clenching her fists as her face went ever paler. She looked up, a strained look on her face.* "Marius?" *She called softly, not able to see him because of the doctor in her way.*

*Marius tried to move closer, but the doctor gave him a look and he was forced to stand helplessly off to the side.*
"Aimee?"

*Aimee would have given the doctor a Look of her own, but she felt as if she was about to pass out. Suddenly, a horrible thought came to her... one which compelled her to rally enough strength to glare searingly at the doctor. Needless to say, the man stepped aside, not wanting to deal with an angry, pregnant, Thenardier-descended woman. You just didn't mess with the Thenardiers.*

*The doctor still glared at both of them, though, even as he stepped aside*
"All right then. Stop me in the middle of helping her when it's possible that she could die." He snapped.
*With a stricken look on his face, Marius grabbed Aimee's hand, shaking his head at the doctor's words*
"No. No, she won't."

*Except that was exactly what she had been about to say. Merde. She looked up at him, eyes almost pleading.*
"Marius, he's right... if I..." *She screwed up her face in pain for a moment, not making a sound and waiting until the contraction had passed,* "if I don't..." *She couldn't continue.*

*Marius vehemently shook his head*
"No, you'll live dear 'Ponine, oh god above. You're too strong to go out this way, ma cherie."

*She almost huffed exasperatedly but instead looked at him pleadingly.*
"This isn't anything I can control, Marius, and If... If I don't make it through this... you have to promise me that you'll keep living."

*His shoulders slumped a bit, though there was an intense fire burning in his eyes...the fire of determination*
"I would try, Aimee, but I don't know for sure...I'm already wanting to lose my mind because of you hurting like this."

"Promise me!" *She insisted, her voice desperate. Another contraction ripped through her and she clenched her jaw to keep from crying out.* "Promise me and promise our child!"

"I won't die, Aimee!"
*He bit back a sob, trying to keep it together as much as was possible.*

*She would have said something, but whatever it had been turned into a moan of pain and she had to squeeze his hand and shut her eyes.*

"Help her!" He pleaded.

*The doctor attempted to ease Marius out of the room (and failed) before resigning himself to the fact that Marius was going to stay. He set to work preparing for the birth, trying to figure out how to save both mother and child...*
