*After her partially disasterous walk along the cliffs, a talk with her mother, and a long hot bath, Pina was curled up in a overstuffed chair in the library near the fire, reading a book and letting her hair dry.*

Richard leaned in awkwardly, as though there were any other way he could.

*Pina caught sight of Richard and grinned.*

"Much better, thank you," *she said, lifting her skirt just a little to reveal a bandage on her leg.* "Mama and Mrs. de Winter took care of it."
*She frowned.*
"Your shirt was ruined, though," *she said apologetically.*

"It's nothing. Don't worry about it."

"It's good- it's a mystery with a curse and a demon-dog and a brilliant detective..."
*She trailed off, meeting his eyes.*
"Thank you. For saving me."

"What else could I have done?"

"Oh, well, I-"
*She blushed and shook her head, smiling.*
"Even so. Thanks."

Richard smiled.

*She felt herself blush even more, and was glad that the other veil she'd dug out of her suitcase hid it.*

"You know, I can't imagine you can see too well wearing that."

"You get used to it," *she said self-consiously.*
