*Falling to the side of him and pulling him on top of her, Lilith smiled inwardly. She kissed him deeply on the lips, relishing the conflict tearing the man apart. She wan't done with him yet- not by any means...*
**FADE OUT**

**FADE IN**
*Holmes rolled to the side, sated but somewhat sick at the same time. Irene... his heart burned for her, and his body couldn't know that this creature was not her. It had betrayed him.
And yet, that tenderness he felt at all times was brought so close to the surface by the dulling power of the drug. He reached for her compulsively.*
"Irene," *he whispered brokenly.*

*Ironically, it really was Irene to whom he now spoke. Lilith, her job complete, had departed at exactly the right moment to cause pain to her hostess. Irene opened her eyes, looked at herself and and where she was- and what had obviously just happened- and pulled back, fear in her eyes*

*Holmes frowned at her blearily, his blood singing but his brain sending warning signals that weren't reaching his nerve endings. He groped for her helplessly as he tried to right himself.*
"Irene?"
It's her, you fool! *his lucid mind hissed at him.* Look at her--she never wanted you, and you, my friend, are the fool you have always pitied.
((haha, now I'm thinking about Mr. T))

((Hehehe...))
*Irene nodded warily, looking at him through the haze of smoke. She couldn't remember a thing of what had happened, but surely he would not have taken advantage of her when her mind was gone?*
"What- what's going on?"

*Holmes blinked at her. Damn this drug!*
"Irene? Issit you?"
*Tears pricked the corners of his eyes.*

"Yes", *she whispered through her horror.*
"Where are we?"

"Opium den," *he got out. The words were hard to get out, like plaster in his mouth.* "You... She brought us... Irene..."

"No..."
*She looked utterly pathetic*
"Did I do this? I can't remember anything about it...did you know it was her when..."
*She looked at their undone clothes*
Please say you didn't...

*The effects were wearing off slightly, to the point where he could feel shame for his disheveled state but could not take any action to correct it.
He also suspected he was smiling inappropriately.*
"No... Yes. It was either me or him... Promised her I'd do anything, long as she didn't go with that man. Rather you hate me, Irene, than be..."
*He shuddered, remembering the predatory gleam in Hyde's eyes. Yes, he wanted to save her from him. But on top of that he could not bear to think of her in Hyde's arms.*

*She turned from him*
"I don't remember...I believe you, but I can't see any of it..."
*She buried her face in her hands*

*Holmes' mind struggled as if through swaddling, trying to reach Irene.*
"I'm sorry," *he whispered brokenly.* "I gave her my word, and she..."
She looks just like you. And she looked like she wanted me.

*Irene nodded, looking down*
"I'm sorry for whatever she did to you. I would never want to hurt you in any way."

*Holmes struggled up to a sitting position, trying to amend his somewhat disrobed state.*
"No," *he said firmly.* "It was you she wanted to hurt. She was merely using me. I... don't matter."
I'll survive. I have to.

"How can you believe that? That you don't matter?"
*She began to reach out to him, then turned away*
"If she did it to hurt me, it was because she knew you mattered to me..."
